Obama hits back with substance

Filed in National by on August 4, 2008

Obama is heading where McCain fears to tread.

“What Senator McCain neglected to mention was that during those thirty years, he was in Washington for twenty-six of them,” said the Senator. “And in all that time, he did little to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. He voted against increased fuel efficiency standards and opposed legislation that included tax credits for more efficient cars. He voted against renewable sources of energy. Against clean biofuels. Against solar power. Against wind power. Against an energy bill that — while far from perfect — represented the largest investment in renewable sources of energy in the history of this country. So when Senator McCain talks about the failure of politicians in Washington to do anything about our energy crisis, it’s important to remember that he’s been a part of that failure.”

Now that’s what I’ve been waiting for!

    And never mind this:

    MAVERICKY!

John McCain is the Ron Burgandy of American Politics.

  2. nemski says:

    1. VC, I don’t care who you are, that’s funny.
    2. I can hear the right-wing saying that Obama is going negative.

  3. Frieda Berryhill says:

SenMcCain wants 45 new nuclear power plants.
Wall street is not buying, Insurance Company wont insure them and 50 years of nuclear waste is constipating the existing plants. Real smart.

  4. cassandra m says:

That ad is great! (The windfall profits tax is still dumb, tho.) I do hope that this is the first of a series that points out how much McCain is picking up the BushCo agenda.

  5. Dominique says:

Again, this coming from the guy who voted for Cheney’s energy bill.

  6. TRUTH TELLER says:

The United States Navy has many nuclear ships and subs in mothballs their accident rate is above reproach so why not light them off and place them on the grid. this has been done several times with naval ships that ran on steam.

  7. mike w. says:

    Wonderful ad Nemski.

The moron is actually pushing his “windfall profit taxes” as a GOOD thing. Incredible!

  8. TRUTH TELLER says:

64 million acres under lease to the Oil company’s and 40 million of those acres off shore. So why haven’t the oil companies drilled on these sites??? Could there be an agenda hidden here?the last time i looked Alaska was a State and yet the north Slope oil doesn’t come to us but goes to Japan and Asia. These are just a few of the questions that should be answered before going forward with new sites.

    ALSO Dom
You are so right Obama did vote for Cheney’s energy bill when I pointed this out during the primary that he did and Hilliary voted no as you can attest to I was almost banished from the site. For some reason telling the truth and not being an echo chamber singing Obama Obama on some subjects was a mortal sin.

  9. cassandra_m says:

We talked about Obama’s vote for the energy bill and while most of us would have preferred that he did NOT make that vote, a few of us understood why he did and the only people here demanding perfection from any candidate (especially Obama) is you and Dominique.

  10. TRUTH TELLER says:

Cassandra i am not demanding perfection but Bush and Cheney have wrecked this country. And it was the Dem’s who aided and abetted them in their project. As much as we seem to despise Bush you have to give him credit for a lame duck who’s ratings are below 26% he gets all he asks for with the help of Nancy and Harry.

  11. pandora says:

Yes, TT, you are demanding perfection. You are holding Obama to a higher standard than you ever held your candidate, Hillary. Hillary’s Iraq vote was a non-issue as far as you were concerned. And while we all cut our chosen candidate slack, you’re not cutting Obama – a candidate you claim to support, though I’ve seen very little evidence of support – any.

When I see you post one positive thing about Obama I’ll change my mind about your “support”. Until then… your criticism is suspect.

  12. TRUTH TELLER says:

    He’s not Bush

  13. pandora says:

Can’t say you didn’t try, but I’m sure you can do better.

  14. TRUTH TELLER says:

Look what I have been waiting for is for Obama to pick a subject and pound away on it. Look McSame had great success no mater what the question was for weeks his answer was the SURGE. Now when ask a question be it Iraq or the economy his answer is OFF SHORE DRILLING. By using this tactic he has managed to get the MSM to promote these themes. So lets hope our guy got the message and adopts this same tactic.

  15. Feffer says:

    “our guy”

    Don’t you mean “our boy”???

No matter, it all points to an empty suit.

I don’t see any candidate as “my” guy/boy. That reeks of a wistful desire to have a politician in your pocket. You’re so low class and uppity….

They are their own person. If they will advance political ideas and philosophies that I agree with, then we “share” common ground and I respect their efforts in the political arena that I choose not to enter myself.

  16. TRUTH TELLER says:

    Feffer

I notice that you are familiar with all the racist words.

  17. mike w. says:

I still think McCain’s best attribute is that he’s not Obama.

  18. TRUTH TELLER says:

Mike I always thought you were smarter than that even if I disagreed with you on most subjects. Can’t you see that this lust for off Shore Drilling is the last of the big land grab by big oil designed by Bush and Cheney using McSame to pass on our resources to the OIL Companies. Who by the way MCSame wants to give 4 Billion dollars of you money to Exxon Mobile in tax breaks. After they just made 12 Billion dollars in profit in 3 months. Setting a record for any company. You cannot be in favor of this even if you own Exxon Mobile stock.

  19. mike w. says:

TT – That doesn’t explain how “windfall profit taxes” are going to help anyone, not people who own stock and not consumers at the pump.

Let me ask you this. Obama wants these “windfall profit taxes” as part of his plan to lower gas prices. When has levying a tax on the producers of a product ever LOWERED the price of said product?
