Del Dems Outspend Carney on Carney Ads

Filed in National by on August 12, 2008

Drew Voltura once again bests the NJ’s Beth Miller with his AdGate coverage. I can’t link to it, but I love this part:

“(Carney campaign manager David Hamrick) said (The Markell campaign) is attempting to use money to buy the election instead of engaging in a positive discussion of the issues,” he said.

Hilarious, because in the very next paragraph…

The Carney campaign would not provide details of its spending. Campaign spokesman Scott McConnell said it is the campaign’s policy not to discuss spending specifics.

But wait, Volturo does some reporting (take note News Journal, this is what journalism looks like) and finds…

In July, the campaign spent about $15,000 on a television commercial that aired Downstate, and it spent at least $22,446 on a radio ad that began airing Saturday.
By comparison, the Delaware Democratic Party has spent more than $53,000 on ads supporting Lt. Gov. Carney — who is the party’s endorsed candidate — including $13,000 for a 30-second TV commercial that begins airing on WBOC today.

I don’t know about you, but that tells me Carney is sucking air and is basically being propped up by the Delaware Democrats who are spending $5.00 to run Carney ads for every $3.00 being spent by the Carney campaign.

No wonder Scott McConnell didn’t want to talk about it.

  1. I heard that the total state party spending on Carney is around 100K now.

  2. FSP says:

    You heard wrong.

  3. nemski says:

Jason, Carney might be “sucking air”, but what are you sucking? 🙂

    Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Just a casual question — how the hell would Burris know what the Dems are or aren’t spending? Now, back to your previously scheduled program….

  5. FSP says:

    Burris knows a lot.

  6. Rebecca says:

The financial reports are due to be filed by 4:30 today. I can hardly wait.

Why? So Markell can run some more adds on TNT and USA.

    Here’s a prediction:

If Markell raises more money than Carney, y’all will spin it that Markell is more popular and will win the election.

If Carney raises more money than Markell, y’all will spin it that the Democratic machine has come out in support of Carney and we need to elect Markell because of it.

    I await the packaged response.

I want to know who thinks that Carney has outraised Markell.

  10. nemski,

I got a package for ya

  11. nemski says:

    DBT –> LOL
Cass –> I’m just saying, Markell will come out as a winner in your minds (excluding DBT) no matter what happens tonight.

  12. cassandra m says:

C’mon nemski — you won’t be over here jumping up and down if Carney has the bigger haul?

The other reaction that you did not provide is that Carney out raised Markell for a single quarter and we need to redouble our efforts to elect Markell since the DE Dem Party would try to treat that news as though Carney had already won the primary.

And if you’ve seen Mrs. Hotviti recently you would NOT take any packages from DBT.

  13. nemski says:

I wish they had the contributors in Excel instead of pdf. Can’t really do any data mining in pdf.

    So Carney’s numbers are out….
