Lee blames his poor fundraising on his horrible campaign

Dana Garrett picked up on something I totally missed:

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Lee today hinted at some trouble in his campaign staff. Some “personnel changes” needed to be made:
“We had some turmoil in our fundraising and made some personnel changes. There were a couple weeks of transition there.” (source)
I really don’t care which Republican lost his or her job in the campaign. Indeed, I am in favor of all Republicans losing their campaign jobs. But I post this only to point out that it is never wise to explain away your poor fundraising totals by blaming turmoil caused by your campaign staff. It is not something that inspires confidence in your ability to not only run a campaign, but also run the state.

Deep Thought Of The Day

When this Arkansas criminal/gun nut lover turns out to have a bunch of Ralph Nader books and Noam Chomsky tapes in his apartment I guess I’ll have a more than a bit of egg on my face.

Insert Bon Jovi music…ohwahuwuhwahuh

You give oil a bad name! brrrrrraaaaaawwwwwwooooooowwwwwwwwereeewwerenowwww

ohwahuwuhwahuh, ohwahuwuhwahuh, ohwahuwuhwahuh,

Insert crying to that music:  waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaawaaaawawawaaaaah

ExxonMobil CEO and chairman Rex Tillerson defended his company’s staggering $11.7 billion in profits for the second quarter

“I can understand why people are very upset and why they’re very worried and concerned about their ability to deal with these high prices,” Tilberson said “It does bother me that much of that is directed at us. Our job is to provide energy, to provide it in a means that is reliable. And we hope we can provide it in a means that’s convenient as well to the consumer.”

I do feel for the guy. His poor company is villafied and all he has to show for it was $120,000,000.00 personal income for 2007

Dunn Endorsed by Dem Leadership

This is very ironic.  Paul Clark gave as a reason for cowardly avoiding a debate on WDEL with his primary opponent Bill Dunn that he had to meet with Democratic leaders on that scheduled night.

Senate Majority Whip Patricia Blevins, D-Elsmere, and House Minority Leader Robert Gilligan, D-Sherwood Park, have endorsed Dunn, a longtime civic leader who lives in Kiamensi Gardens, in the Stanton area.

LOL.

Copeland Expects Democratic Governor.

And he tries to disassociate himself from the Republican Party as well.

Copeland also attempted to distance himself from his Democratic opponent by saying he, unlike Denn, would be capable of operating separately from the elected governor.

In a news release, Copeland described himself as an “independent voice” for lieutenant governor, and separate from the party. In his statement, Copeland emphasized the separation of the lieutenant governor’s and governor’s offices.

“Citizens expect you to work with the governor — to serve by their side when they are working for policies that truly help the people of Delaware,” Copeland said in the statement. “So yes, no matter who is governor, I will work with him to do what’s best for Delaware.”

Wow.  These statements are just devoid of any confidence that Retired Judge Bill Lee can win.  So Copeland is covering his bases by saying he will be able to work with Markell or Carney as an “independent voice.”  Joining Lee under the bus is the Delaware Republican Party, when Copeland says he will be separate of his party.

And that is hysterical.  He is the REPUBLICAN MINORITY LEADER in the Senate.  He is the Delaware Republican Party.  Indeed, isn’t Copeland the future of the Republican Party?

Politically, what Copeland is doing is trying to make himself palpatable to those voting Democratic for Governor so that they will split tickets.   To do that, he has to make voters forget that he is a Republican, because the voters simply do not like Republicans in this day and age.

This is why I hate the party endorsement process.

Because it gives license to the News Journal to write crap this this:

Two Democrats vying to be Delaware’s next insurance commissioner went after one of their own Wednesday, attacking the party’s endorsed candidate for what they called conflicts of interest over donations to his campaign.

With the phrases “went after one of their own” and “attacked,” the News Journal is painting what Tom Savage and Karen Weldin Stewart did last night as disreputable and nefarious, when all they did was debate the issues with Gene Reed at a debate broadcast live on WDEL, all the while raising the very legitimate issue of Reed allegedly taking money from those he proposes to regulate.    Indeed, in identifying Reed as “the party’s endorsed candidate,” the News Journal takes the position that any questioning of him by his primary opponents is somehow wrong and underhanded.

If Reed was not the endorsed candidate, but just a frontrunner, would that opening sentence be structured with such a bias towards Reed?

The News Journal, the Democratic Party, and even Gene Reed need to realize something: Gene Reed is not the Democratic nominee.    Just like John Carney is not the Democratic nominee.   They both have to do something first: win our votes and then win the primary election.   If a candidate has the right ideas, the right background, and runs a good campaign, he or she will win.  He or she needs not to be proped up by the Delaware Democratic Party with their “endorsement” and the News Journal with their biased coverage.
