Win Friends, Influence People

John McCain has foot-in-mouth disease.

McCain responded by saying immigrants were taking jobs nobody else wanted. He offered anybody in the crowd $50 an hour to pick lettuce in Arizona.

Shouts of protest rose from the crowd, with some accepting McCain’s job offer.

“I’ll take it!” one man shouted.

McCain insisted none of them would do such menial labor for a complete season. “You can’t do it, my friends.”

Some in the crowd said they didn’t appreciate McCain questioning their work ethic.

I love that Republicans like to call Joe Biden a gaffe machine. Would you pick lettuce for $50 an hour (about $100K/year)?

Oh well, you know whose fault this is?  The North Vietnamese.

  1. I worked on a potato farm when I was in high school and you’d probably have to pay me that much to get me to do that job again 🙂

“I can’t tell you how much fun that was,” he [McCain] said.

The saddest part of that statement was the he couldn’t.

This isn’t elitist? Come on, this is the definition of the word. Somebody needs to tell Johnny Bravo that 50.00 an hour is a lot of money AND that there are plenty of people (legal and illegal) who do menial, nasty jobs for a lot less.

Maybe so, but you all are the pots calling the kettle black. Can I say “black” here?

Someone should ask McCain what lettuce would actually cost in the grocery store if pickers were paid $50.00/hour.

You know I am a bit miffed–I was in Arizona last weekend..and this “same” story circulated; only it was potatoes (maybe strawberries) for 20 bucks an hour in Idaho….is this turning into political folklore w/ a high tech link? Just wondering…but this is suspicious in light of my travel…because I even commented to my husband…that dang..our kids got the wrong summer job and 20 bucks would be great–and I’d work by their side for the excercise. Now I read 50 for lettuce? Does lettuce even grow in the desert state of Arizona? What are you up to? I’m not buying this one….
