On a side note unrelated to tonight, I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED the white placards with Hillary’s handwritten name on it from last night. They rocked. They were new, right ?

Did Obamaites come up with those ? Hope we can find something fun for Joe.

In other news, two weeks ago, Jason asked what Biden’s selection would mean. I said that at a minimum, it would ensure Jonathan Chait’s horrible piece attacking Delaware would be republished by The New Republic.
    And sure enough, today ….

Nice touch for NM to yield to IL then IL yield to NY so Clinton could move to suspend the roll call and move to nominate by acclaimation.

Cool move… plus the roll call is boring.

Just heard that it is done — Obama is the official nominee. Illinois passed its turn in the vote so when New York came up Hillary asked for Obama to be voted in by acclamation.

“With eyes firmly fixed on our future and in the spirit of unity … let’s declare together in one voice, right here, right now, that Barack Obama is our candidate and he will be our president,” Clinton said, setting off a loud celebration as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., the convention’s chairwoman, made Obama’s nomination official.

    Ben,

I expect that either Obama or the DNC made those signs. They were great.

And don’t make me go over to that disgusting New Republic site to read that tripe.

Well, that was embarrassing! John Daniello gave the vote count for Delaware, and you would have thought he was dead. All the other states had enthusiastic people from their states announcing their votes, telling something about their state that they’re proud of WITH ENTHUSIASM and Daniello reads every word with his head down and all he says is Delaware is the first state in the country and home of the VP candidate. Wake me up now. HELLO! Aren’t you excited about Joe Biden, John??

He was awful. Get him out of there.

    So it is official.

First African-American nominee for President of American history. This white boy is all teary.

God bless Hillary Clinton. I do respect her. I do like her. She is a champion and a true Democrat. I did not like her presidential campaign and some tactics employed, but that is water under the bridge now, especially after her great speech last night.

She will be a great leader in the Senate for decades to come.

Oh and I am trying to keep an eye on your threads but since I use RSS it is hard to see when you start a new one and yada yada 🙂
But Joe deserves our watchful eye.

To give you a glimpse at what the piece written a few years ago was intended to argue :

Delaware’s image as small and inoffensive is not merely a misconception but a purposeful guise. It presents itself as a plucky underdog peopled by a benevolent, public-spirited, entrepreneurial citizenry. In truth, it is a rapacious parasite state with a long history of disloyalty and avarice.

The piece is fascinating but disgusting. I thought it was famous in DE because back then it had created a HUGE scandal.

I usually mock “the weepers” but considering the history of this nation I am a bit chocked up myself. Africans were brought here as human chattel and the civil right act was only passed one generation ago. Whatever your affiliation or persuasion… this is kind of a big deal.

We had almost forgot how we were making history among all that Clinton drama.
Ironically, the roll call helps Obama because it struck all of us and reminded us of the emotions we felt back in June.

It actually started New Mexico. They passed to Illinois, who passed to New York, and …

My favorite part. Hillary gives her thing then passes to the chair person, the chair person puts forth the motion, calls for yeahs, waits, calls for the nays and without waiting for any declares the motion passed by 2/3 majority.

  13. Dorian Gray

Pelosi wasn’t interested in the nays, no. She didn’t even pause… But I watched it live, the yeas were 2/3… I didn’t hear any isolated bitching when she carried the motion without a pause for nays, so I’m calling it UNITY. 🙂

I don’t. They are all racists, every last one of them. They now call Hillary a liar for saying the things she did about McCain last night.

    Fuck them.

Dont misunderstand me. It is not about sympathy
It is about … what kind of bitterneess could have brought these people to say things like “Her orange pantsuit was a subliminal sign she is a prisoner of the DNC which is forcing her to do this” (no kidding)
Surely, something must have gone wrong in their lives.

  16. JG

some may be racist, others are just in love with the idea of women being elected. I can understand the latter. I was really hoping for somebody who isn’t an old white guy (Note, I’m well on my way to being an old white guy myself).

On the issue alone, its hard to justify loving hillary and hating obama (or vise-versa).

  17. Benjamin

    I agree, JG.

I completely understand supporting Hillary over Obama even though I disagree.
But what could that guy, arguably one of the nicest guys we have ever have running for President, could have done to warrant some of the bile thrown at him is beyond me ?

The PUMAs that are extant are an embarrassment. They really are the new 9/11 Truthers now — invested in a completely impossible tale of woe and havoc that feeds their own crazy needs.

Plus these ladies aren’t helping the equality movement one bit — demonstrating that they are incapable of knowing how to gracefully lose AND to be a part of a team isn’t helping our collective reputations.

Seriously, did Joe Biden actually call Slobo Milosevic a war criminal to his face? I looked it up in my copy of Holbrooke’s To End a War but couldn’t find a reference.
