The hurricane hit around noon as a Category 2 storm 70 miles SE of New Orleans. Apparently, when it hit NO, it was classified as Category 1, which is a whole lot better than was predicted a couple of days ago.

There is some flooding, with the Industrial Canal overtopping, with 6 inches or so of water in the Lower Ninth Ward. The picture above is of the Industrial Canal overtopping. As of now, the Corps of Engineers is expecting all levees to hold.

And Johnny White’s Sports Bar in the French Quarter is open and NPR says there are about 20 people still getting their party on.

The Obama Campaign sent an email to their supporters this AM asking them to contribute to the American Red Cross.

They’ve also decided to stand down from campaigning at least for the day to monitor events.
