The Band Rocks

VH1 is playing the last Waltz tonight and I don’t want my last post [for who knows how long due to changes in my work thing] to be one that rags on Hube.  I actually like Hube, but he hates my guts.   That’s okay.  I’m being carried on a wave of love, raspy three part harmony and positive Levon Helm vibes right now so I will not say goodbye, but see you later.

Geek, DD, DV, Cassandra, and Pandora –

You guys rock.  Keep sticking it to the man and send me occasional coded messages through the Delaware State News’ “soundoff” feature.  BTW – I asked Nemski to join the team, but he is playing coy.  Someone should tell him that DL is the third largest circulation newspaper in DE.

 Nighty night.

Comment Rescue: Hube Brings The Scary

He does not comment much anymore, but when he does…it is a keeper.

Manonman. What a pathetic parody this “site” has become. Not that it was ever a bastion of sensible political commentary in the first place. All evil and immoral? All scum? DelDem couldn’t debate his fucking way out of a paper bag, even debating NOBODY. What an asshole.

You’re soon destined to become even more of a parody once DE Talk Radio gets underway, too.

I love that last part.

By golly, in Hube’s mind Delaware Talk Radio is going to learn us a thing or two. Then we’ll be sad. Then we’ll know that Hube was right all along about Bush, Iraq, BSG, pretty much everything I tell ya!

Mark my words….

This is Why I Love Joe Biden.

He is just so human, unafraid to show emotion, unafraid to show his love of his family.   Stupid conservatives will deride this, criticizing him for tearing up, saying that he is not acting like a man.   And I say it is Joe Biden who really is a man, while all who criticize him for this can never hope to be.

Obama has taken a stand. Anyone know where McCain stands on this one?

Senator Barack Obama and two other prominent Democrats urged federal housing regulators on Tuesday to cut the golden parachutes of the ousted leaders of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, another sign that the government bailout of those mortgage giants could reverberate through the presidential campaign.

I don’t see McCain taking a stand. It would upset his base. And we all know that Mavericks don’t upsate their base.

I’m shocked! shocked! Can you believe this????

Wide-Ranging Ethics Scandal Emerges at Interior Dept.

WASHINGTON — As Congress prepares to debate expansion of drilling in taxpayer-owned coastal waters, the Interior Department agency that collects oil and gas royalties has been caught up in a wide-ranging ethics scandal — including allegations of financial self-dealing, accepting gifts from energy companies, cocaine use and sexual misconduct.

Wow, it is so hard to believe that the department that deals with the Oil and Gas industry is turning out to be corrupt and unethical….

Between the coke and women I’m pretty sure that Bush and McCain would have loved this department in their younger days.

“A culture of ethical failure” besets the agency, Mr. Devaney wrote in a cover memo.

Insert this statement just about anywhere in the Bush/McCain administration and it will apply…

DOJ, FEMA, EPA…

The Map.

As soon as the first 10 districts came in, and Markell was ahead by a slight 53-47 margin, I knew we were probably going to have a good night.   Why?  Because I was assuming that, like always, all the early numbers were coming in from Sussex County, were there are less people and less polling places per per district, thus making it easier to tabulate a total count for the district.   And if Markell was leading in Carney country, which I thought Sussex County to be, then all Markell had to do was balance out Wilmington (another strong Carney area) with Newark, Chateau, Hockessin and Brandywine.      And whomever wins Kent and “South-of the Canal New Castle”, wins.

And that is precisely what happened.  Indeed, it looks like Carney and Markell split Sussex, but in reality Markell won the more heavily populated parts, thus winning the county.

Dr. Michael Katz Wins Twice in One Night

Check it out.

With Abbott spoiling GOP golden boy Fleming’s chances, the 4th SD gets to choose between a straight up Bushian wingnut (son of Clatworthy) and a serious, sober Democrat. I’m calling this one for Katz.

Carper…You’re Next.

Tom Carper has outlived his DLC-Delaware Way usefulness. He was a competent Governor and Congressman, but since he was elevated to the Senate, he has drifted evermore right wing. He still supports the War and he still supports Joe Lieberman, to this very day.

His reaction to the primary last night?

“It’s a primary that should never have happened,” said U.S. Sen. Tom Carper, who tried to broker a deal that would have had Markell run for lieutenant governor. “But they both ran campaigns that Delaware can be proud of.”

Still harping on the horribleness of a primary, as if it is always disasterous to let the people have a choice. That quote is a perfect reflection of his Washington and “Delaware Way” mindset: “We know best, the people will get what we give them.”

Progressives, we must begin the job of recruiting a primary challenger to Tom Carper now. The urge to primary Carper in 2006 occurred too late. Indeed, even if we had found a candidate in 2006, he would be without money or a campaign organization and no time to introduce himself or herself to the people.

We have four years starting right now.

Despite what Tom Carper thinks, primaries are a wonderful thing. They keep a politician honest to his principles he ran on in the first place. Let’s say we do find a good candidate in the next year, and he or she begins running against Carper in earnest then. In order to win the primary, Carper will have to adjust. He would have to campaign. And he may have to change his positions and enact some progressive legislation. Those are all good results of a primary, even if we do not win the primary.

So, Tom, primaries are a good thing, and you are about to find out how good they are.

Delawonk Hiatus

Was it a sock-puppet blog all along? Hmmmm…?

DelaWonk is going on hiatus for a short while, but I will be back.

Until then…

In the spirit of reconcilation I will say that I’ll be looking forward to Delawonk coming back and being the high-minded policy oriented blog that it aspires to be.

Holy Shit.

Al Mascitti just called Ruth Ann Minner “Hitler in a Housecoat.”   And he nearly called her a bitch right before that.

I thought I was probably over the top when I called her petulant, selfish, and told her to go to Hell this morning.

Damn, Al.
