Dr. Michael Katz Wins Twice in One Night

Filed in National by on September 10, 2008

Check it out.

With Abbott spoiling GOP golden boy Fleming’s chances, the 4th SD gets to choose between a straight up Bushian wingnut (son of Clatworthy) and a serious, sober Democrat. I’m calling this one for Katz.

I am sorry to spoil your theory. Clatworthy didn’t just slide by. He would have won a race between He and Fleming. He is the reformer Republicans were hungering for. I believe that will hold for Independents in that district as well. 55/45 Clatworthy.

BTW, good job on WHYY last night.

  2. rsmitty says:

    Sheesh Jason, you still here?

  3. delawaredem says:

David….I think Jason’s point is the partisan turnout on either side. 3,814 Republicans voted, and 3,854 Democrats voted. In a primary in a supposedly red district, that is interesting. In the General Election, with Obama-Biden-Markell leading the ticket, Katz is in good shape.

  4. rsmitty says:

Well, sure, but also a district that has crossed-over for the SD plenty of times in the past. They certainly couldn’t have done that for the primary race.

There is some analysis to be had from Primaries, but to be the final say is misleading…unless, of course, you are a punk-ass, interest-laden council president or coucilman. Then the primaries said something.

  5. Geezer says:

I disagree, Smitty. Clatworthy won this because of name recognition (check out TNJ’s quotes from voters in the race). His hard-core no-tax-pledge conservatism is out of step with the district. If the Fleming voters switch to Katz — which, if the race gets enough attention, they very well might — Clatworthy will lose.

  6. Kilroy says:

Though I am no longer a member Delaware R club, I still support a few good R’s. John Chatworthy has more decency then many in his party. I am saying from being on the inside and attending many regional meeting under John’s leadership.

Sure he is a Republican team player but I see him helping bring the party back around. I don’t see him as one who will have the attitude if you’re not with me then you’re against me. I believe he has the ability to find common ground and that’s what Dover needs. Not pigheaded egotistic politicians. He’ll be a big help getting transparency legislation passed and it will be through working together.

The old guard is changing and John will be part of the new guard. He might be riding on name recognition but he brings his good family values with him.

“I disagree, Smitty. Clatworthy won this because of name recognition (check out TNJ’s quotes from voters in the race).”

Well apparently the name brought a positive feeling. Carney has name recognition why did he lose? Copeland and Lee won’t win in November and they have name recognition! So John’s last name must be a worthy name!

  7. Von Cracker says:

    isn’t clatworthy a fundy-freak?

  8. Geezer says:

Kilroy: Way to miss the point. In a down-ticket race with three names, people pick the name they’ve heard the most — Clatworthy, Hartley-Nagle. That doesn’t hold true for a top-of-the-ticket race.

I don’t give a damn about his family or his values. That’s something you R’s obsess over. I’m against the brain-dead, no-taxes approach. He’s running to represent the richest Senate district in the state, full of people who could raise their tax bills fivefold simply by moving across state lines.

In short, we need solutions to problems, not discredited Republican nostrums.

  9. FSP says:

The elevated D turnout in the 4th may have had something to do with someone who lives in that area running in a fairly interesting primary.

  10. DPN says:

As someone who lives in the 4th, which (if I am not mistaken) is more Republican than Democrat, one of the things I’ve noticed about my Republican neighbors is that they are more Democrat than Republican.

Katz will win and I will help him do so.

I left the Delaware R party a few months ago! Clatworthy may hail from the land of the rich and famous however, he has a sincere concern about the quality of life for all. I am just saying that he will operate more towards the middle and knows the downfalls of egotism within politics. For me, Copeland probably spends more on his hair then I make in a year! Are you suggesting all D’s are saints? Wait doesn’t Biden live in the 4th Senate? So you are an Independent a lost soul who is a afraid of commitments!

They need the R stamp to maintain their membership to the WCC

How many r’s switched before Lee annouced and beofre the deadline to vote for Governor ( Markell)
