  1. Dorian Gray says:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

  2. Linoge says:

    Unfortunately, no.

  3. Von Cracker says:

We gotta keep those damn Mongolians out!!!

If you think walls are gonna make a difference, you’re stoooopid.

  4. meatball says:

Does Lady Liberty have a green card?

  5. Dorian Gray says:

    I think she’s here from France on a B1 student visa. 🙂

  6. mike w. says:

I second Linoge. I wish I could say he had gotten that done.

  7. anon says:

Bush can’t even build a wall around New Orleans.

  8. delawaredem says:

Bush can’t even swallow a pretzel without nearly dying.

  9. mike w. says:

Screw New Orleans. You build a damn city that sits in a “fishbowl” below sea level, surrounded by water, and right in hurricane alley you should expect bad shit to happen.

  10. pandora says:

Well now, that was “classy”, Mike. Should we “screw the coasts of Florida, Texas, the Carolinas’, etc.?

Oh, and btw, Delaware is on the coast.

  11. mike w. says:

What I’m saying is they should expect such things to occur and have the planning and resources to deal with it. Instead everyone blamed Bush and the Federal Government.

Other than being on the coast DE is in no way geographically similar to New Orleans as far as this discussion is concerned.

  12. Von Cracker says:

    That’s low Mike…even for you.

  13. JadeGold says:

The wall is a symbol for simple-minded bigots. It’s a fetish item.

GOP authoritarians, like Linoge and Mikey, are big into symbology. Nevermind the fact, a wall or a fence would accomplish nothing other than enriching some of Bush Jr’s buddies.

If Mikey and Linoge were actually serious about reducing illegal immigration, they would address demand. But that might mean going after businesses that count on illegals for the cheap, disposable labor they want. Further, Linoge and Mikey should support the fact that getting rid of illegal workers will cause the cost of products, from produce to house, to go up. And as cost go up, unemployment will rise.

But, as on so many other issues, folks like Mikey and Linoge are deeply unserious.

  14. mike w. says:

“But, as on so many other issues, folks like Mikey and Linoge are deeply unserious.”

Says the guy who considers gun control a serious solution to this country’s crime problems.

  15. anonone says:

    Mike W.

    Why aren’t you in Iraq?

  16. mike w. says:

    Why aren’t you?

  17. JadeGold says:

Again, a gun is a symbol for Mikey and Linoge. It does nothing to reduce crime–even pro-gunloon hack John Lott admits that. And there is good reason to understand that more guns have led to more crime.

But Linoge and Mikey are enslaved by the image of Bruce Willis in Die Hard.

  18. anonone says:

I don’t support the war – never have and never did. You?

  19. mike w. says:

John Lott admits that. And there is good reason to understand that more guns have led to more crime.

Yeah, Lott’s book is entitled “more guns, less crime” I’m sure he admits in his book that more guns = MORE crime. Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

  20. pandora says:

    NOT a gun blog!!!!!

  21. Von Cracker says:

All roads lead to firearms, P!

  22. pandora says:

    I need a drink!

  23. mike w. says:

So do I. I could really use a Newcastle.

  24. Von Cracker says:

After 8 years of lowest common denominator politics, the entire world needs one….or three!

  25. mike w. says:

I’ll need a few to vote for McCain……I’ll need a few cases if Obama gets elected.

  26. anonone says:

    Mike W.

I answered your question – why don’t you answer my question: Why aren’t you in Iraq?

  27. mike w. says:

Anonone – See the other thread where you asked this question asshole.

And yes, my calling you an asshole on this point is perfectly acceptable.

  28. JadeGold says:

Why aren’t you in Iraq, Mikey?

  29. meatball says:

you could probably gain employment with Blackwater Worldwide. They literally support our troops.

  30. Von Cracker says:

    come on! Lay off.

  31. rsmitty says:

on a side note…it’s hard to keep track of the multiple-sourced 9/11 QOD links on the “recent comments’ section.

    Grrrr…….

  32. DPN says:

lg, needs to increase the number of comments in the “recent comments” section.

  33. mike w. says:

or not have the same title for 2 different posts.

  34. rsmitty says:

or not have the same title for 2 different posts.

    Um…five, actually. For now, anyway.

  35. anonone says:

    Mike W.

Just askin’. No reason to call names.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of young able-bodied repub war lovers have chosen to let others go to fight, kill and die in their place. That is why I asked you, and I hope that you ask them why, too.

I hope that someday soon a cure is found for CP. Maybe through stem cell research (oh, I forgot, the repubs hate that too, as well as science in general).

  36. mike w. says:

“Just askin’. No reason to call names.”

Sorry, but the same exact BS question and “chickenhawk” crap has been levied at me by several folks here, so you’ll have to forgive me for being blunt & short when it’s levied at me once again.

You should remember however that those “others” did choose to join the US military.

I’m not sure if stem-cell research could cure CP, but it would be a very interesting development if it could.

  37. rsmitty says:

Maybe through stem cell research (oh, I forgot, the repubs hate that too, as well as science in general).

Funny. Who is the Republican that keeps introducing that bill, too? Oh, that’s right, it’s grandstanding, because he’s an R that knows it will go down in flames. Convenient.

Sorry, but this is just pure bovine feces. Most of y’all live near Philadelphia, and I’m sure you’ve heard the whining that poor people in the city, especially those who dropped out of school, just can’t find jobs. Well, I worked in that area, working for a ready-mixed concrete producer that serviced the Philly burbs, including Delaware, Chester, Berks and Montgomery counties, as well as New Castle County in Delaware. If you went to the residential construction sites, what you saw were Mexican crews doing the concrete, the landscaping, the framing, the roofing, the drywall, the exterior siding and the painting. These weren’t minimum wage jobs, and they weren’t jobs that required a high school diploma or, for the most part, long training. Contractors turned to Mexicans who couldn’t speak more than a smattering of English to get the jobs done because our good American citizens, born and reared here, weren’t willing to get off their dead asses and do the work!

The solution to illegal immigration is to force the American citizens who will not work to either go out and work or starve; it’s as simple as that.

I have exactly zero sympathy for people who could work but won’t work. The best solution is to deport an American citizen who won’t work in exchange for keeping the illegal immigrant who will.

  39. anon says:

You are proposing to build an economy based on lawbreaking.

  40. mike w. says:

Oh they work Dana, but none of their “work” is legitimate or legal.

  41. pandora says:

Unlike those who spend their days posting on blogs CONSTANTLY… at their employers expense.

  42. mike w. says:

But wait Pandora, Don’t I just sit in my parents basement eating cheetos, drinking beer and playing World of Warcraft?

And I was referring to the fact that many of these folks sell drugs for a living and then collect welfare / food stamps as well since they report little or no “official” income.

  43. And I was referring to the fact that many of these folks sell drugs for a living and then collect welfare / food stamps as well since they report little or no “official” income.

  44. Stella Bluez says:

I get so sick of coming to this blog to read, ah, I don’t know, intelligent commentary……& every friggin thread is dominated by the same wanker saying the same shit over & over…..

Mike…..you truly have nothing better to do than spend your days stirring the pot HERE??

Did you work for any candidate during the campaign, did you volunteer to support those you believe in??

Do you put any effort towards the causes you so idiotically espouse??

For all your opinions, are you more than just a waste of human flesh??

    It’s really old…..& you’re really predictable….

    go ahead…call me names….

  45. mike w. says:

    “go ahead…call me names….”

No. Were I to do that I’d be no better than many others on this site.

Way to stay classy, decent, and respectful with comments like the one below though.

“For all your opinions, are you more than just a waste of human flesh??”

  46. cassandra_m says:

Hey Stella — we are not feeding our resident troll.

  47. mike w. says:

That’s the thing Cass – You WANT me to quit posting with substance and engage in childish name calling and obfuscation. I won’t do so.

  48. mike w. says:

And Cass – Comments like Stella’s above only reflect poorly upon her and those who support and endorse such comments.

  49. Stella Bluez says:

ANYTHING we say somehow always “reflects poorly”

    …..how do you reflect??

….substance?? do you know what that means??

Sorry, didn’t mean to feed the troll…..my bad…

  50. mike w. says:

“ANYTHING we say somehow always “reflects poorly””

No, not at all, just the comments that don’t address arguments and merely consist of childish name-calling and crass BS like this,

“are you more than just a waste of human flesh??”

Really Stella, did your comment have any point? any point at all? If you want to take issue with some point or argument I’ve made go for it. Otherwise comments like #44 are petty and useless.

  51. Stella Bluez says:

my point…..you dominate a thread on a blog that is polar opposite of your beliefs….

& you keep saying the same shit….

  52. pandora says:

Save your breath, Stella. Mike is always right, always wins the argument, and must always have the last word. He’s sorta like our pet.

  53. Stella Bluez says:

    I know….I know…

then let’s get him a hamster wheel so he’ll have something else to do….

    just sayin…

  54. cassandra_m says:

He already thinks that this is the hamster wheel…..

    🙄

  55. Stella Bluez says:

    oh, that’s good Cass…..

  56. mike w. says:

I see Pandora and Cass are back to their usual standard responses. Some originality and free thinking would be a refreshing change for you two.
