Just When You Think You’ve Seen The Worst

it actually gets worse:

With so much at stake, and time running short, Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” he said. “That is scary.” It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama’s controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. “And he won’t salute the flag,” one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, “We don’t even know where Senator Obama was really born.” Actually, we do; it’s Hawaii.

So now they are actually teaching their campaign workers to tell prospective voters that Obama is a terrorist. They are linking Obama to those responsible for 9/11 — which is just as despicable as creating the mobs that include folks calling for blood. We already know that if you have an R behind your name, you are delighted to be ruled by your worst fears and anxieties, but calling out Americans as being connected to Osama bin Laden just because you need a way to up the ante is further demonstration that any honor that McCain had has been utterly squandered away by a campaign that apparently doesn’t think that McCain’s own personal reputation no longer matters.

This is very scary. I’m concerned about the potential for violence here. What Frederick did – could it be considered slander?

You’re right, UI. We all know where this sort of talk could lead. And so does McCain.

What are the odds that this crap makes its way into next weeks debate?

I hope it does, Pandora, and I think Obama does, too. My hunch is that he has a prepared answer that lets Mcinsane have it in his face.

I think that is why both Obama and Biden have been chiding Mcinsane to “say it to his face”. Obama is prepared.

I very much hate when people misinterpret and draw false conclusions.

Oh, I definitely think it will come up in the debate. How could it not – it’s been in the news all week? I’ll bet Shieffer asks about it. I definitely think Obama is trying to goad McCain into having one of his blow ups. I’ll bet McCain doesn’t blow up, but we’ll see the same angry/disrepectful behavior towards Obama at the debate.

For some happier news – blowback is beginning. Tommy Thompson and Mitt Romney are backing away from McCain:

Tommy Thompson, a Republican who is a former governor of Wisconsin, said it would be difficult for Mr. McCain to win in his state but not impossible, particularly if he campaigned in conservative Democratic parts of the state. Asked if he was happy with Mr. McCain’s campaign, Mr. Thompson replied, “No,” and he added, “I don’t know who is.”

And, suprisingly, RedState founder Josh Trevino can’t vote for McCain either, instead writing in Bobby Jindal’s name.
