If Republicans are really against socialism…
Then why aren’t they campaigning on the promise of abolishing Medicare? And while they’re at it, perhaps Republican Congressmen should opt out of their government healthcare plan as well.
Just saying.

From my perspective, Pandora, most Republicans (now primarily “big government” GOPers) are essentially socialist–though I would obviously prefer the word “statist.”
In that respect, to me, the primary difference in their philosophic approach to government is that both the Dems and the GOPers want to use the power of government to good ends of a particular constituency; they just have different constituencies.
You should probably look at the big-wig ambulance chasers like your favorite dem, John Edwards, the SAVIOR of healthcare, who has forced many doctors out of business because they have to pay unbelievable amounts of money for malpractice… Please, the Dems are ready to put the hard-working people in America in a straightjacket with government run healthcare which will bankrupt the country, more paperwork and less accountability.. So, please, go sign up for your boob job and botox now cause Barky will give it to all you libs for free so you can be as BEAUTIFUL as him and Nancy.
Couldn’t answer the question, eh Vyllyness? Feel free to try again.
Seriously Pandora. Vyllyness just demonstrated that he can’t answer the question because he knows he has no answers.
I’m rooting we go full blown commie! that way this fascism bullshit can just go away
I guess we’ll have to stop the socialized school system, socialized police department and fire department then.
Wowsers, an actual good question! You might as well ask why more Republicans aren’t against Social Security. Well, the truth is that nobody seems to have the balls to declare that the Emperor of wealth redistribution has no clothes. Harken back to Bill Clinton: “I tried really hard to give the middle class a tax cut, but I guess it sucks to be you!” Fast forward to Barry O: “I’m gonna try really hard to give 95% of Americans a tax cut, but don’t hold your breath!”
Meanwhile, anyone who stands up and calls bullshit on this is just a racist. Hello, if you’re turning a wrench on an assembly line, you’re not middle class! Don’t expect to be paid the same as someone with an actual college degree. (meaning other than Sociology, English, Enter-the-Blank Studies, etc.) Sorry Don V, but even if your 3 daughters get a free pass to college, it doesn’t mean they’re worth employing. Maybe you’ll get lucky, and they’ll learn a trade. Who knows, you may be the father of a future governor!
1. They would lose Florida. Old people vote in droves
2. Eating the elephant. The problem is so large now, ending it is simply not practical which is why the most they can muster is phasing it out.
3. Momentum. Programs of this size have an enormous amount of momentum and those things outlast Presidents and Congresscritters.
The press should ask all those fools in McSame’s crowd to give up their medicare and SS checks. for arn’t they all socialism’s programs???????

I guess I’m confused– The election isn’t over yet and you’re already saying it hasn’t or it won’t happen? Wasn’t Bill facing a Republican majority at his time?
The question was about being against Socialism… If you’re making a boat load of money, more power to you. What Obama is just wanting to do is make sure that the rest of the country can at least live out their days knowing that if they get sick, they need medical services that they can have it. I don’t see what’s wrong with that. Republicans aren’t refusing the healthcare they get, are they?
VYLLYNESS!!!!!!
“Drove doctors out of Business for malpractice?????”
Doctor’s who practice malpractice shouldn’t be in business in the first place.
Also every othe country that has Universal Health care their citizen’s live longer than we do. And yes that includes Cuba.
It is an article of faith among the wingnuts (and it is AOK to say that here!) that Obama won’t try to enact his tax plan.
What is interesting about that article of faith is that it hasn’t changed even though the results of the BushCo economic policy have come crashing into our 401ks and into our banks. As this year long recession lengthens (and maybe deepens), tax cuts of the kind proposed by Obama are going to be at the top of the economic stimulus list.
Let me just say this again: What is wrong with Universal Healthcare? The British have it, Canada has it… What are the problems that they’re running into? We’ve been doing the same thing for decades, has it gotten better?
My co-pay keeps going up. My monthly keeps going up… If this way, the way we’re doing things now is working, then why are we in trouble? Why are their people that die because they have no health insurance? Why are their kids with no health insurance? Why is our life expectancy shorter than theirs?
If the way we’re doing things is right and so great, then why do we have these issues?
shortstuff
Wasn’t Bill facing a Republican majority at his time? No, he said that in 92; the GOP didn’t take over until 94
Forget Republicans–why aren’t all politicians and government employees required to drop out of the Federal pension system and participate in Social Security? Why do they get to subsidize themselves a far better deal?
dv says, Programs of this size have an enormous amount of momentum and those things outlast Presidents and Congresscritters.
Which is probably the most honest statement anybody has made here in a long time. It’s no longer about right and wrong or even whether we can afford it, it’s about political inertia.
If that’s not a condemnation of both mainstream parties for failure I’m not sure what is
But, Steve, only one side is accusing the other of being a socialist. Just sayin’.
The main point of my question is hypocrisy. Republicans need to walk the talk. If Medicare, Social Security, etc are socialist programs, they should openly run against them. Of course, they won’t. Political suicide is messy.
Off the subject a bit I know everybody is a bit upset with Joe for his remarks about being tested.
The thing that upsets me and I wrote Joe on this was the Dem’s failure to respond to the criticism of those remarks.
The correct response should have been that Obama and I are well aware of the world’s view and we have our heads up unlike Bush and company who when told that Osama was about to attack the United States before 9/11 he and his team went on vacation.
