We are getting closer to learning just how bad the illegal spying on US citizens really was….

U.S. District Judge Henry Kennedy Jr. signed an order Friday requiring the department to produce the memos by the White House legal counsel’s office by Nov. 17. He said he will review the memos in private to determine if any information can be released publicly without violating attorney-client privilege or jeopardizing national security.

“It’s an important decision because up to this point the judge has relied on the government’s assertion that it has done everything properly under the law and that it has disclosed everything it needs to disclose,” Rotenberg said Saturday.

  1. Tyler Nixon says:

I sincerely hope the Obama DOJ completes the circle of justice by prosecuting the illegal activities committed under Bush-Cheney, no matter who it means dragging out in shackles.

The “let bygones be bygones” – ‘forget their crimes now that they are out of power’ answer will not suffice. We need to know what has really gone on in our government behind the Bush-Cheney veil of secrecy and deceit. People need to be made to account before the bar of justice, and dealt with accordingly.

Illegal profits derived from war and other assorted taxpayer bilkings connected to the Iraq/GWOT/DHS bonanzas must be pursued and the beneficiaries divested.

This would be the rule of law reigning supreme, truly restored. Obama would truly have done his country a great service warranting ceaseless praise. I hope he won’t consider it optional, a matter of political calculation – like the Bush Administration.

I won’t be holding my breath after Barack’s FISA sell out. But there is always hope.

  2. Don’t hold your breath. They’ll take advantage of the loopholes Bush made, and the Presidency will never be the same.
