Really, Mike, spit out that Twinkie and choke up some info. Carney seems like the logical choice, unless they’re just looking for a seat warmer for Biden Jr.
Sort of true. The truth is that Joe doesn’t have leverage any more. Ruth Ann doesn’t have any reason to bow to Joe or anyone. The Smith appointment would be just a nod in the direction of women, rather than a move to help Delaware.
The truth is that Joe doesnโt have leverage any more.
Um, no. Joe will always be able to call on the resources and the right group of people to get Beau (or whoever he backs) elected. Those same people can also be “discouraged” from assisting someone. Which isn’t to say that you couldn’t get elected without Biden and his support — you could — but you will need to be prepared to raise money and your own significant grassroots support (Markell style).
CARNEY! CARNEY! CARNEY! Write letters to the Snooze-Journal, people! Call RAM and Jack and apply some pressure. Beau’s a good guy, but let him earn his office the regular way. His family name’s enough of an advantage, don’t make him look weak by handing him the seat on a silver platter.
Also, to say that Joe doesn’t have any leverage anymore is a little naive.
True – RAM is done with politics (allegedly) and thus doesn’t have any reason to keep anyone “happy”, but that’s a very pessimistic view of RAM to which I don’t necessarily subscribe.
Smith is a nod to women, obviously important to RAM, and it satisfies Joe’s desire to keep the seat “open” in 2010.
The Plouffe thing sounds like fanciful speculation. I don’t even know if he is eligible. He’s not registered to vote in Delaware, I don’t think.
I worked with Windsor-Smith on a major project a few years ago when she was Director of State Personnel. While she has some fairly impressive credentials, let’s just say, I wasn’t impressed in any way. She had an astounding ability to delay a critical decision until she could pass the buck. It seemed she was always busy jockeying for her next position.
While it is always a good thing to “give women a nod”, especially in the political arena, this particular woman would set any progress made two steps back. Just my opinion. As always, I could be wrong.
There is a somewhat organized movement, at least in Sussex, to get Carney the appointment. Someone stopped by the county headquarters yesterday morning and put up a huge “Send JC to DC” sign outside the office. Didn’t ask if they could, just did it. Of course, at first I thought is was the other JC. ๐
That and there were stickers being handed out that had the same message.
This is a slam dunk.
I am convinced myself. Beau Biden will run for the House seat in 2010 against Son of Clatworthy.
The NYT is talking up Harriet Smith Windsor, but that has to be viewed as a transparent scam to get Biden Jr. the seat.
Let’s just put it like this: The Carney pick ain’t happening. No way. No how. As much as I’d like it to, this I can guarantee you.
Why Mike? Spill it!
Really, Mike, spit out that Twinkie and choke up some info. Carney seems like the logical choice, unless they’re just looking for a seat warmer for Biden Jr.
Miscreant I think we can find a common cause if this thing is wired for Jr by the appoinment of some old RAM crony.
I do not think that Carney is a slam dunk.
I don’t think Carney is a slam dunk, but I certainly don’t think Harriet Smith Windsor means it’s in the bag for Beau Biden either.
S.B. WoooooooHoooooo!!!!
Honestly, she needs to pick Carney and pick him now. The sooner she acts, the better Delaware’s situation in the Senate.
Ok, I’ve heard the same thing… that Joe has made it clear he wants a seat-holder and that seat-holder will be Harriet.
I love Joe, but we need to stand up and just say no.
Why don’t we start a serious “Draft Carney” movement and put the pressure on them?
Bingo, George. Joe is in control here and Joe gets what he wants.
Sort of true. The truth is that Joe doesn’t have leverage any more. Ruth Ann doesn’t have any reason to bow to Joe or anyone. The Smith appointment would be just a nod in the direction of women, rather than a move to help Delaware.
Smith is the best place-holder pic.
Did anyone catch the photo of Biden in his DT hat yesterday? Lonnie George lovin’?
Wild. Card.
A St. Marks guy in the Senate? Is the state ready for that?

maybe he will be in favor of decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana and cocaine!!!
Carney was St. Mark’s too!
Me Alma Mater….well one of them.
The question is: How’s DV’s chances with
BroomhildaMinner?๐
Let me put it this way:
CARNEY! CARNEY! CARNEY! Write letters to the Snooze-Journal, people! Call RAM and Jack and apply some pressure. Beau’s a good guy, but let him earn his office the regular way. His family name’s enough of an advantage, don’t make him look weak by handing him the seat on a silver platter.
Woah, Carney was St. Mark’s? Maybe I need to rethink this…
Also, to say that Joe doesn’t have any leverage anymore is a little naive.

I agree with George about Biden’s leverage.
It was kind of silly to say that he will have less as the Vice President than he did as a Senator.

MJ–which other JC did you mean? You know there are three of us now!!
Joanne – I’d send you to DC in a heartbeat.
Knowing Sussex and the Dixiecrats, I figured it was the Jewish guy with the long hair.
Putting “somewhat organized” and “Sussex” County in the same sentence is, how you say in America, putting the moron before the ox.
