If there is any undertaking as thankless than being a committed Democrat, I’d like to know about it.

Governor-elect Jack Markell Selects Administration’s Chief of Staff

WILMINGTON – Governor-elect Jack Markell announced Tuesday that Dennis Rochford will leave a successful career in the private sector to be his administration’s chief of staff.

“Dennis has the right combination of experience in the business world and in government that I was looking for in a chief of staff,” Markell said. “He is well-respected by Democrats and Republicans. His intellect and judgment will be invaluable as my administration addresses the serious challenges facing our state. I know Dennis will work hard everyday to help me build a brighter future for Delaware.”

    It is only 2:30.

Maybe RAM will announce that Mike Castle is going to be our next Senator. Then my day will be perfect.

  2. nemski says:

Jason’s having a tough day. First Lieberbman, now Rochford. What’s next, we actually find out the Karen Weldin Stewart is a security guard at Lowes. 😉

  3. nemski says:

    Your comment is funnier.

  4. cassandra_m says:

I had heard that the Rochford selection was supposed to be a subject at the recent Dem caucus. No idea — yet — what came of that discussion.

But then, I don’t know that much about Rochford, other than this pick left both local Ds and Rs scratching their heads.

The question I have is how Markell gets a legislative agenda accomplished with this guy?

  5. George says:

Told ya so. There’s your big business, Centerville Democrat.

  6. George says:

No. I’ll leave it at that. As that other great DLC Democrat once said, “I feel your pain.”

  7. I’m fine with diversity in Jack’s cabinet. It’s the other things I’ve heard about Rochford that worry me.

  8. David says:

This is a great pick. I am personally familiar with Denny. He is smart, capable, and able to bring people together. I applaud the choice. I thought the Lieberman thing would be the great news of the day. Life is just getting better.

  9. liberalgeek says:

    Point proven. Thanks, David.

  10. David says:

Guys, Markell is just more astute than you. He is looking for people who can make things happen not have a political rally. Considering the challenges facing us, I applaud his wisdom. We all need help our new governor succeed.

  11. George says:

That’s right. Markell is just smarter than the rest of us. How could I forget? My error.

If we disagree with Carper, then we are being forceful agents of progressive change. If we disagree with Markell, then we just aren’t smart enough to understand his penultimate wisdom.

    Do you see the disconnect?

  12. liberalgeek says:

Fine, but don’t expect us not to be annoyed. If you believe that there aren’t Democrats that can do this, then fine, but there are.

I will be sulking for the rest of the day.

  13. Disbelief says:

LG, would your sulk involve alcohol in a bar south of the Canal on a nearby Thursday?

    Focus, focus, focus.

  14. kavips says:

You are all forgetting Jack needs to trust his right hand.. Most of those “others” voted for Carney.

  15. liberalgeek says:

K – are you suggesting that there are no qualified Democrats that supported Jack, only Republicans? Yes, they are trustworthy.

  16. Evan Bayh told Maddows that as soon as Lieberman started to ef up the place, he’d be dechaired.
    Would that were so.

    Denny…that is so Boston Legal.

  17. All I can say about the glum faces around here is that my mom, dad and half of my numerous siblings are conservatives. Because they happen to also be Republicans isn’t something I hold against them (most of them anyway). A few voted for Perot, afterall.
Shite, I just voted for Sorenson.
    What it is.

Watching the Dem caucus form is like watching the Eagles take the field.

  19. jason330 says:

    You got that right.

  20. cassandra_m says:

    LOL!

We all need help our new governor succeed.

We do, but I’m certain David won’t be living up to this worth a damn.

  21. xstryker says:

    Well said!

  22. h. says:

I guess not having to bitch about something would make this place boring.

  23. Mike Protack says:

Looks like Mr Obama is organizing a Clinton administration reunion, so much for change.

As for Mr. Rochford, good luck in a very tough job. The shine will be off that apple (Markell Administration) in short order. The criticism won’t be from the right, it will be from the left.

  24. P.I. says:

Wonder if this means he’ll have to give up his drinking time at the Piedmont Club every day?

  25. MJ says:

Jack made this pick for a reason. Obviously, he trusts Rochford to do the job. Hell, Jack hasn’t even taken office yet and y’all are acting like the sky is falling. Let’s give the man a chance.

  26. Geezer says:

Hey Protack, why don’t you go suck a lemon? You’re not wanted here, or anywhere else for that matter. When you prove you care more about the state than you do about a) yourself, b) the conservative movement and c) the GOP, maybe someone will listen to you. First, though, prove it. So far you’re nothing but a big mouth that’s wrong about everything except the Delaware GOP’s inability to win — something any Democrat could have told us. Please dry up and blow away.

“If we disagree with Carper, then we are being forceful agents of progressive change. If we disagree with Markell, then we just aren’t smart enough to understand his penultimate wisdom. Do you see the disconnect?”

Yes, I do — in that you have no idea what the word “penultimate” means. It means “next-to-last,” you dolt. That goes for your political acumen, too.

Just so you don’t miss the point, though, George, Jack was trying to say “Fuck you” to people like you.

  27. Dominique says:

PURPLE NATION, PEOPLE!!! That’s what Obama said, not blue, not red…PURPLE!!! All Republicans are not bad.

JFC. Are you seriously that closed-mind???

  28. Joanne Christian says:

Here’s a thought…why not the “Purple Party”, as a third party alternative? You on board Dom?
