Question of the Morning x 2

1) Does anyone get the dead tree edition of the NJ?

2) Anything therein? I can’t make heads nor tails of the website.

The best in thing in there was an editorial slamming RAM for pissing away another $400,000 + by ‘gifting’ state employees another holiday which effectively gives all people who have to work that day a holiday rate of pay.

Now that the election is over, it is time to cancel my subscription and wait for them to lure me back with a half-price offer (still overpriced).
You are right about their website. It is the most confusing, worst organized site out there.

Not to mentions the comments on the website articles often make it appear to be a discussion group for the Klu Klux klan.

  5. MJ says:

Canceling print subscription. Overpaying what it would cost me to walk 5 minutes to the 7-11. Plus their circulation “customer service” is crap.

You got that right, but I’d also broaden that to include damn near every conspiracy theorist on the planet. If I were the NJ I would be embarrassed by that and look to moderate comments alot more closely.

But then, they don’t have anyone to really keep that website up to snuff, so who am I kidding?

Going back to the original point of the thread, I would say that when they changed their format, they stopped being relevant.

    Who wants to read advertisments?

I am proud to say that I haven’t read a single one of their advertisements since they switched their format over to this one, where no one can find anything…

There is more accessable local news in the “Swapper”.

We canceled our dead-tree edition almost 2 years ago. My wife was upset about their coverage of a certain topic, called them and that was it. We get it at work, and we usually buy the Saturday and Sunday papers. I don’t miss getting it at home, and this is someone who worked for several years at a daily newspaper.

Anyone expecting things to get better is in for a disappointment. TNJ just laid off 31 people, including at least 2 photographers, and they will not fill 13 other vacancies. Gannett just wished a Merry Christmas to them and about 2,000 other employees all over the country. Expect more wire copy, shared Gannett stories, and less local coverage and local pictures. How could the product possibly get better in that environment?

The web page is a disaster, but this cannot be laid at TNJ’s feet. This was a Gannett-mandated change at all of their papers. All of their sites look the same. The best that can be said of their site is that it is free. Other than that, it stinks.

I get the dead tree version, but I have a hard time with the web version. I have trouble reading the comments. Perhaps because I have a mac?

  10. Another Mike says:

At work, I am unable to see the comments unless I log in.
