Comment Rescue: Support Lisa Diller For NCC Council

Filed in Delaware by on January 17, 2009

I think John Tobin can forgiven for breaking his self-imposed blog-policy of not endorsing candidates for office.

http://www.lisadiller.com/

From her website:
“Lisa has been endorsed by Representative Terry Schooley of the 23rd District and Representative John Kowalko of the 25th District. Together, these districts make up 85% of the voters in the 5th County Council District.”

85% of the 5th district is the 25th and 23rd RD’s yet the full slate of committee people in the 21st, 24th and 22nd are voting on who the candidate will be. It really makes no sense and it makes one question why the rules were set up this way. Howard has suggested that she is entitled to the nomination because she wanted to run the last time the seat was open. I hope that argument does not prevail and that instead, the districts will choose who will really best serve the district and the county. I think that’s Lisa Diller.

  2. El Somnambulo says:

If the 24th RD actually had a functioning committee they’d have knocked off Bill Oberle long ago. Instead, they ran interference for him.

They can be counted on to do the wrong thing. Of course, that’s assuming there actually ARE any remaining 24th RD Committee members.

Diller/Tobin would do well to know the requirements of committee membership and to challenge any attempts to pack the committee.

  3. anon says:

The 21st RD committee is the same outfit that failed to put up a serious fight for the open House seat in a Dem year.

  4. I am so gled to see the beginning of a blogging campaign for Lisa Diller. Thanks Jason.
We have got to get the DEMs in the Newark area to confirm their committment to the public good. Diller is nothing if not GREAT.
I was not happy with some of the wishy washy stuff coming out of the area leadership with regard for support of Paul Clark but if we allow these DEM leaders to choose Paul Clark’s campaign chair to replace McClellan there will be hell to pay.

    El Som,

The 24th Committee is re-forming and I’m leading it. If you know anyone who is interested, have them contact me.

They can’t pack the Committees with supporters. Only people who were recognized by the party as of last year will be able to vote.

    Nancy,

Part of getting Lisa Diller as the candidate is just informing people. Mr. D’Anna speaks very well of himself and if you’re like me – not really plugged into the ins & outs of who is who then you might like him. He emphasized his experience working with Joe Biden. It was only when I probed him about development and growth that I understood what he was about.

I don’t think there is any conspiracy afoot by the party.

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

    El Som,

I really hope we can knock off Oberle in 2010. Basara came very close without any money or support. With a functioning committee, I hope we’ll do a better job.

  7. Put it this way, UI, special elections mean that the most connected people get ‘chosen’. It is basically a candidate selection process where the insider gets the nod. We are just lucky that Diller is just as ‘connected’ as D’Anna. I hope that you will lobby for her.

  8. Unstable Isotope says:

I agree with that Nancy. I think any shenanigans that will go on will not be at the party level, but at the candidate level.

  9. Tom S. says:

How is she on workforce house and the 32 million dollar budget shortfall that democratic control has brought?

  10. Lee Ann (aka Minner crony) says:

    Dear UI,

In another post I mention D’Anna threatening a D legislator with an opponent if she let a Livable Delaware bill out of committee (she did, anyway). Too bad I didn’t tape the phone calls and meetings where he went a little beyond ballistic as DNREC and New Castle County were trying to get his development to establish a large buffer to protect a federally protected species (Sniadowski property near Reybold Road). He accused us of planting the beetle.

If the Ds endorse this guy, you have just handed the fox the key to the henhouse. If we’re this stupid, this is why I still believe in a two-party system to provide checks and balances.

  11. anony says:

As a true Democrat it pains me to say: if Vince D’Anna gets the endorsement, I will work for the Republican!

  12. …if a Republican runs. Republicans are notorious for not running for NCC Council.

  13. Unstable Isotope says:

I haven’t heard any rumors of a Republican running. I suppose an independent could enter the race.

  14. StopInfill! says:

Does anyone in NCC feel “their” member on Council represents their interests? Do you think you have even 1/13th of a say in the current rush to rape New Castle County without a Plan? Council is predominately a Union tool put into power by the Democratic hacks. In this one party state we need to run candidates that will forcefully take back the Council and make it serve us all. The majority if not all members should be AT LARGE. I want to vote on ALL members since they collectively influence the environment I must live in presently and if they were selected for their insight I might see a better future NCC. We must take the initiative and form a PTA-like citizens group that will propose a candidate for every slot. Maybe we also can get the State to require a majority of Council be AT LARGE members with Countywide voting. That would change the current membership in due time.
