Quick Update From DC

Filed in National by on January 19, 2009

The vibe in the city is amazing! Traffic was not bad getting in and we walked down to the White House and mall to get into the event and everyone (and I mean everyone from cops, to taxi drivers to national guardsmen to people of every race and station) was radiant with joy over the end of the Bush years and the rebirth of the American dream.

I’ll have to some pictures to post soon, but here is the thing:

“The gray dinge of the Bush adminstration is lifting and everyone in this town feels it.”

You unmitigated bastard, I am so envious of your presence there. Perhaps I will change your password while you are gone.

My folks are down there and they say it is like a city-wide block party down there.

The message of unity (“there is no “red America” and no “blue America”) is coming true tonight.

All Washingtonians are used to events that draw mobs of people – but they are aways distinct groups of people, the “million man march” or “pro-choice” or “anti-choice” but this event tis event is going to be one that shows that “out of many” we are really “one.”

Reading your reports and seeing your pictures isn’t as good as being there, but hopefully it’ll be the next best thing.

I’m watching Olbermann reporting live from DC right now. The crowd was singing “hey hey hey goodbye” in the background. I know the feeling. My husband and are drinking “last day of the Bush administration” margaritas right now.

Time to start singing that old Democratic standard – Happy Days are Here Again!

We older folk will be interested in hearing how the 1,000,000 people vs. 5,000 por-a-pots works out. In the meantime, we’ll be wathcing from the comfort of a sofa with a champagne toast.
