Another QOD
When the President of the United States offer you a position in his cabinet as Commerce Secretary do you have the balls to make a demand? Ahhh, you have to love the Republicans
And despite some other recent kerfuffles over Senate vacancies, Gregg is openly demanding a trade-off for his seat.
“I have made it clear to the Senate Leadership on both sides of the aisle and to the Governor that I would not leave the Senate if I felt my departure would cause a change in the makeup of the Senate,” Gregg said in a statement on Monday.

Repub mantra: Party first, country a distant second.
Judd Gregg, nice knowin’ ya. Go back to being an insignificant senator in an increasingly insignificant party.
You know the only reason he was chosen was because his governor would appoint a dem senator, throwing the balance off some more.
Yeah Brian, keep those talking points coming.
good point Brian,
At this point, Obama has proven he is doing things Party first and country second…
Because New Hampshire is well known to be a hub of modern commerce…. sure.
Actually Gregg has been quite an Obama fan. He is also highly respected (and listened to) by Republicans.
“His presentation was a tour de force. It was surely impressive and it was comprehensive,” Gregg said later. “I felt much better he had such a comprehensive understanding of what I see as the issue. He’s clearly moving forward aggressively on all the different fronts.”
For Gregg to cross over now and join the administration will make it harder for his fellow Republicans to demonize Obama and refuse to give the new president the running room he needs to put together his economic recovery plan.”

Actually, the Obama administration has been very crafty in their handling of politics. Very subtle, and a brash move like appointing for simple measures like throwing the balance off in the Senate isn’t his style…
… but what Pandora said in 7 is. It will pressure the GOP to the table.
I thought it was a crime to make a deal over an appointment to the Senate?????hmmmmmmm
Poor Blogo
“For Gregg to cross over now and join the administration will make it harder for his fellow Republicans to demonize Obama and refuse to give the new president the running room he needs to put together his economic recovery plan.”
You surely do not believe that statement do you? If he believes Obama’s stimulus plan will work please let him take the job so he can leave the Senate.
Has Gregg paid his taxes?
You are seriously pushing the line that Barry just happened to nominate the 41st Republican senator because … he is such a nice guy? Come of guys.
No Tom S., we believe President Obama wants Gregg because he’s qualified.
Bush was the president who nominated “nice guys”.
Senator Gregg must have unpaid back taxes, and President Obama wants to use that to push the meme, “See, Republicanss cheat on their taxes, too!”
Obama needs a GOP ex-Senator in the cabinet to help bring Republican senators along with his agenda, because 59 senators are not enough when they are Democrats.
So, Dana, we can add cheat on their taxes to play footsie in the men’s room and send lurid IMs to teens?
Brian Beutler blogging for Matt Yglesias this week, makes this observation about Gregg’s demand that his replacement preserve the status quo:
Surely Gregg’s desire to replace himself with somebody who will often oppose his new boss’s agenda is evidence of his deep commitment to the administration, the cabinet, and the agency he appears poised to head.
That about says it all, to me.
