Carper Don.

Filed in National by on February 10, 2009

Our illustrious Senator Tom Carper made an appearance on WDEL’s afternoon news yesterday to sell the economic stimulus package. In so doing, I think he made shit up. First, he said that “leading experts” agree that the bill, out of which hundreds of billions were cut from vital programs, is about as big as it needs to be to get the job done. That is total bullshit, Tom, and I challenge you to name those leading experts. Most, if not all, experts I have heard speak on the subject have said the package is not big enough.

Second, the Senate said he expects House and Senate Republicans to support the version of the bill that comes out of a conference committee after an expected Senate vote Tuesday, and here is the spectactular and outrageous part, he doesn’t know if the traitor Mike Castle will vote for it. HA!

So, wait a minute. He expects House and Senate Republicans to support the bill, and thus it logically follows that he expects Mike Castle, a House Republican, to support the bill. Yet, he doesn’t know if the supposed moderate Castle will! Carper loves to brandish his centrist DLC credentials all the time. And his alliance with Mike Castle is bourne out of the notion that Mike Castle, too, is a centrist, albeit a Republican one. That has been Carper’s reason all these years for refusing to sanction a hit on Castle via a serious electoral challenge. It was because he could work with the moderate Castle.

And now he is saying he doesn’t know if the moderate Castle will support a bill that the moderate Carper and his DLC allies helped gut? What more confirmation do you need that Mike Castle has embraced the conservative right wing?

Castle will vote for the compromise bill because it will pass without him. That’s how he rolls. When his vote doesn’t matter, he is Mister moderate. When he can make a difference, it is party line all the way.

The RNC got it’s propaganda juice out of Castle’s vote and now he is free to pretend that he is responsive to Delawareans instead of the GOP.

Carper, jiminy Christmas! He is just horrible. If ever a politician acted untouchable it is him. Even so, he’ll be losing an ally in Castle in two years.

I’m think he might have overplayed his hand last time by keeping John Carney from taking out Castle. I’m not sure Don Carper has two bullets in that gun.

    WTF Chris Carl?

The clip had Carper saying that economist say that the bill is barely big enough (if any smaller don;t bother – to paraphrase) and somehow that comes out like:

Carper told WDEL’s Delaware Afternoon News some leading experts agree that the bill, which should be slimmed down somewhat by the time it reaches the President’s desk, is about as big as it needs to be to get the job done.

A little journalism would be nice guys.

    SHeez.

  3. Delaware Dem says:

So I should attack Carl and not Carper in this piece for that experts statement. Ugh, that would require an apology to Carper.

  4. caped crusader says:

Meanwhile, the News Journal continues its shallow, know-nothing assault on the stimulus bill — today’s editorial.

Pssssssst — no one cares what you have to say in Delaware, let alone Inside the Beltway.

    Obsolete Irrelevance Marches On.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

Where are senators getting their economic experts because they seem pretty clueless.

So, who’s more useless: Carper or Castle?

    GREAT POST
Carper is a DINO wanker and Castle is his sidekick.

Castle coming on WILM 1450am at approx. 10:45,..lets see if Castle will hide behind Watson and refuse to take calls….or whether he will consider his speech on WILM radio….his town hall.

  9. Susan Regis Collins says:

I read it was Mr. Carper who was in there with a chain saw clear cutting the stimulas package and taking kudos for it.

    DINO indeed!
