Castle Succumbs to Pressure?

Filed in National by on February 11, 2009

The Fix at the Washington Post is reporting that the Grand Betrayer of Delaware, Congressman Mike Castle, may change his traitorous “no” to a disingenuous “yes” vote.

First, I will believe it when I see it.

Second, even if he does vote for the Stimulus Bill, it will just be further confirmation of the False Moderate that he is. As Jason has said, when it matters, like 14 days ago, he votes with the conservative leadership of his party. When it doesn’t, he bucks his party and votes with the Democrats to burnish his “moderate” credentials. Indeed, I would like to know his reasons for voting for the bill now instead of two weeks ago. Not much has changed in the bill between now and then.

It seems that the tax cuts portion of this thing is definitely smaller. So Castle would be voting for smaller tax cuts and against the bigger ones. The Club for Growth won’t be happy.

Heard on NPR this afternoon that there is a wide expectation that Rs in the House won’t vote for this, either.

  2. jason330 says:

Go get him Club for Growth!

This is so typical. On the bright side, the DelawareforObama folks who are pretty moderate have picked up on Castle’s bullshittyness. (Posting on that tomorrow I hope)

That is bad news for the faux centrist.

  3. jason330 says:

Mark my words. Castle’s statement will say that he still has problems with the economic recovery bill, but he is persuaded that the situation is serious and this compromise bill is the best we can do right now.

It is a stone cold lock.

  4. Arthur Downs says:

Castle is correct more often than a stopped clock and he was correct on this one.

How many of the Senators who voted for this abortion took time to read it?

This economic panacea gives snake oil a bad name.

  5. David says:

I voted for it after I voted against it.

  6. Steve Newton says:

Castle was interviewed this morning on WPHT.

He said there is a “slight” chance he might change his vote, and predicted that the compromise bill had only an outside chance of picking up even 8-10 GOP votes in the House.

I thought it was kind of interesting that Castle chose to accept the invite to a Philly station….

  7. jason330 says:

If his vote does not matter he will vote for it.

You can take that out back,
    Put it on a spit,
Rub it down with sea salt & coarse pepper,
And roast it over hardwood charcoal.

  8. Steve Newton says:

What’s interesting is that he said in the interview that his vote would not matter….

So maybe you have a point

  9. Unstable Isotope says:

It’s interesting how one gets to be a centrist – you only vote against your party when it doesn’t make a difference. If you’re a Dem, you have to criticize other Dems (the Lieberman method).

  10. That’s the Delaware Way, isn’t it? If a bill has enough voted to pass, it’s damn near unanimous. If it doesn’t, then it never sees the light of day.

  11. “False Moderate ”

For the hundreth time. Castle most recent voting record as recorded by the National Journal had Mr Castle’s record as 53% Conservative and 47% liberal.

The bill has serious flaws, very serious flaws.

  12. jason330 says:

For the hundreth time. That is a bullshit way to figure out if someone is a moderate.

Look at the votes when it matters – not when the question is settled.
