My Take On Things

Filed in Delaware by on February 13, 2009

I don’t know where the Delaware blogosphere is headed, but I will state this: three moderators here need to begin to act respectful to others. They don’t have to respect them, just act in a courteous manner toward others. I don’t care about the wingnuts who visit here, the change must start within.

I don’t care about the wingnuts who visit here…. This new found civility has a long way to go. God love you for trying.

I have a new book Breakthrough, Politics in the Age of Obama. I will let you know what I think. Maybe the age of Obama will bring a new civility to politics. The President is one class act. He makes one proud to be an American just like Reagan did. NOW if he could have policies like Reagan, I would be happy.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

    David….

In case you misread my post last night, I wasn’t really calling for new found civility. In fact, I recognize that both sides would view the other with contempt. And we will still call each other names. I was just calling for no outings, and more engagement.

I have a roundup post of the DE blogosphere that I will post in a few that I hope will begin to do just that.

  3. nemski says:

Oh I know, but name calling isn’t necessary, IMHO. How are we to work together to make a better Delaware if we call someone a “goat fucker”, idiot, ass wipe, etc.?

  4. Delaware Dem says:

Wow. Just when Burris et al were referring to us as an echo chamber, speaking with one mind, Nemski goes and calls out three of us.

Now the guessing game begins. Who are the three? Kind of like the guessing concerning who were the Final Five on Battlestar Galatica.

    I say it is:

    Jason
    me
    DV.

    Well, I am trying Nemski.

  5. nemski says:

Hey, I didn’t name names, but I could have been talking about pandora, cassandra_m and xstryker. πŸ˜‰

  6. anon says:

The three people in question are clever enough to totally eviscerate someone without namecalling.

It is really tempting to bring in someone’s occupation and family benefits, because it can shed a lot of light on their politics. But that is a box better left unopened.

  7. R Smitty says:

This is probably going to hurt…but….was the trackback to Burris’ response actually deleted? You know my agenda is one that would rather see this exchange whither down into something far more productive, so don’t look at it as an attempt at anything other than that. I will say, though, that in all of this discourse, if items are being deleted for material that is rebuttal, simply because you (“you” is generic in this sense) don’t like it, well, that ain’t so good.

  8. Steve Newton says:

    DD
You actually watched to the bitter end on BS Galactica?

  9. R Smitty says:

anon – that innuendo was another example of the “line.”

To all – that would be another great show of what shouldn’t be acceptable. Nothing was outed, but my God, the doubt has been planted. Utter childish BS. All sides should leave that crap alone.

  10. jason330 says:

I hate these navel gazing posts about “blogging.” Especially when they go on top of my funny Castle/Carper pictures.

    My Take:

We just need to keep having good content and calling out the frauds and losers in elected office and the rest of the BS fades in importance.

  11. nemski says:

RSmitty, to answer your question about deleting the track back, I felt that, though it was genuine, it seemed more of they’re at fault without taking any responsibility for today’s situation.

  12. Delaware Dem says:

We have a disagreement here RSmitty. Since Nemski felt the need for this post, I feel the need to point out that I disagree with Burris being banned here and for his deletion of the trackback.

    I am for engagement.

  13. R Smitty says:

Thanks for the admission. While I disagree with the result, you know I do so respectfully! πŸ™‚

  14. h. says:

Nemski, I’m glad you’ve realized you and two others need to be a little more respectful.

  15. A meal without a little spice is bland.

A meal with too much spice is nasty.

You just have to balance the flavors.

  16. Delaware Dem says:

LOL. Thanks Nemski. Our minor tiff is over. πŸ˜‰

  17. R Smitty says:

I’m happy only when we can all get along and dogs and cats get together to produce cogs and dats. That is when we will have our happy place. (Queue Psycho music)

  18. David says:

Bring Burris back! It made it more interesting.

You, You You’s (Laurel and Hardy punch line–they were having an insult contest and finally ran of insults. Stan then said “You, You, you you.”) need to get over it and start engaging again.

I hate this ban stuff on all sides unless there is something so awful that it shouldn’t be printed like libel, porn, lying, or consistent rotten language.

  19. pandora says:

    Nicely done, Nemski.

  20. anon says:

It is not about respect, it is about methodology.

GOP talking points are 99% unworthy of respect and should be called out at every opportunity.

Most of the talking points have been repeatedly debunked with real facts, yet they continue to reappear.

How much respect should I have for the people who keep claiming the current bill has millions for a salt marsh mouse? After the initial debunking, there comes a time when they aren’t wrong, they are simply lying or stupid or both.

Yet, there is good reason to maintain a taboo on certain methods of discourse. Not because they are “disrespectful” – but in terms of simple self-interest, they can cut both ways.

Interestingly, the DP blog has set down a marker that it is OK to fight fire with fire. This too may be something that will be regretted.

  21. anonone says:

It couldn’t be pandora or cassandra_m – they are always smart and nice.

Anyway, I don’t think you need to change a thing. Civility isn’t as much fun as it used to be.

As Jason know, when you see somebody hanging on to the rear end of a goat, you gotta call it as you see it.

Nemski, you need to go throw some shoes.

  22. jason330 says:

These threads make me want to puke.

    Just sayin.

  23. Reis says:

I agree with Jason; self-reflection and Robert’s Rules of Order are activities for a more boring blog. Really; how many of you would watch an episode of “Miss Manners at Work”?

  24. h. says:

I think the name calling and pettiness give this blog an edge not found on other blogs. I find it refreshing. I lifts my spirits. Takes me to a better place. I am willing to be petty and childish, but will never call names. If I can’t say it to your face …… .

BTW, quit calling me a republican.

  25. h. says:

    Absolutely not. Independent.

  26. Delaware Dem says:

    I stand corrected.

  27. anon says:

    h. can you give us an example of one thing you disagree with Repubs on?

(note: if you say “spending” that doesn’t count)

  28. Unstable Isotope says:

Now I know what it feels like when parents fight. I hope we all kiss and make up.

  29. h. says:

    I’ll give you two. Religion.Abortion.

  30. Delaware Dem says:

We are fine UI. We are just have a minor disagreement.

  31. Mark H says:

“Really; how many of you would watch an episode of β€œMiss Manners at Work”?”

If she was hot and at least partially nude, then yes, I’d watch. πŸ™‚

“I hope we all kiss and make up.” Not if I have to see either DelDem, jason, or nemski involved. πŸ™‚

  32. Dorian Gray says:

This topic is so silly. It’s the DE blogosphere… a cross between the Onion and The Howard Stern show. You use aliases like donsquissyhussein or some such thing. This ain’t a fucking Paris salon… it’s an outlet to bust balls. You guys need to get over yourselves. Breaking news… it is an echo chamber… occassionally some numbnut comes here to pick a fight… so we give it to them… give me a fucking break…

  33. xstryker says:

I reserve my right to refer to Mike Castle as “Ol’ Coinage McGee” or “Captain Jellospine” or “Mister Fancycoins”.

I have never called him a goatf***er, nor do I intend to. And calling Mike Protack an idiot and a liar is just telling the truth.
