UK Bankers Stomp Their Feet and Threaten To Take Their Toys and Leave For… ???

Filed in National by on February 27, 2009

Half of British bankers said they would leave the the country if their bonus pay was capped.

The poll by jobs website eFinancialCareers.com found that 49 percent of British-based bankers would consider voting with their feet such a limit to their income were introduced. That figure rose to 71 percent among financiers with six to ten years experience.

“Were bonuses to be capped unilaterally in the UK, the country would run the risk of an exodus of top financial talent,” said John Benson, chief executive of eFinancialCareers.

Financial talent?  Are they serious?   Oh, and by the way, where ya headed?

However, the number of alternative locations in which to work has shrunk dramatically as the credit crisis has hit hiring and pay around the world.

Idle threats, since there simply isn’t anywhere for them to go.  Dangerous game of Chicken, since most of them should and may soon be out of a job.

Perhaps they have a different definition of “talent” than the rest of us. They still don’t get it, do they? I’d like to see them try to move. Do they think they’ll be able to sell their house?

Two more bank failures were reported tonight, one in Nevada and one in Illinois. When think about banks will be toast in the future anyway. Their business model is that they lend money to home owners who have jobs, that`s their main reason for being. World wide millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs meaning the banks are in bad shape today but will be in worse shape tomorrow, nationalize them sooner rather than later and we will wind up ahead of the game.

This is pretty amazing. The banking industry is contracting with everything else — so if these Masters of the Universe get out of the pool perhaps they will be replaced by up and comers who have a better ability to access and manage risk.

It says something that these guys don’t really know anything about what it means to be in a company that is failing. While they have been buying and selling everything on the planet with no real interest in the people who work to make any of that (in fact, those same workers are often in the way of the profits they want to make), it is inconceivable that they could be facing the same fate.

Let them go. They’ll find that the only work left to them right now is running a Nigerian email scam.
