FYI: Minnesota still doesn’t have a Senator

Filed in National by on March 12, 2009

Something that seems to be largely ignored by our “liberul” MSM is the Norm Coleman / Al Franken senate race. Why? I don’t get what isn’t there to go all ga-ga over.

It is a never ending saga over there and it seems, to me, that Coleman can sink low enough. It seems that all the sleazy accusations that the GOP throws out around election time, are exactly what they, the Coleman team get caught doing time and again.

Wahhhh, voter fraud. Coleman’s team is found to have been tampering with witnesses.
Wahhhh, absentee ballots don’t get counted. Coleman doesn’t want the ballots counted

Now the latest in the Coleman is saying that Franken hacked into his database of donors and is scaring them into not donating…

“It is obviously an attack on this campaign,” said Coleman. “But beyond that, just in terms of the campaign we’re involved in a very expensive legal proceeding. Online fundraising is a very critical element of that, and clearly the theft of this information, the publication of this information undermines that. But this is more about my campaign or the ability to fund a legal effort or campaign. We do so much online. Politics today relies on online fundraising, and unfortunately we find ourselves in a situation where the level of trust and confidentially in that information is severely undermined.”

But of course, it is going to be Colemans fault because well, they are idiots over there and all the money in the world isn’t going to buy this election:

Professor David Schultz, who teaches election law at Hamline University, tells TPM via e-mail that the Coleman campaign could be in serious legal trouble, assuming this was the product of their own negligence:

His campaign potentially violated state law by not promptly notifying card holders of the disclosure of their card info. Assume the campaign did suffer a breach in security, his campaign faces fines under state law and it is possible a card holder could sue the campaign for any damages. It would be hard for the donors to sue Coleman personally and prevail.

Coleman’s spokesman has not responded to an e-mailed request for comment on Schultz’s analysis.

But, you wont see this stuff in the news. God, how awesome will it be when Franken gets seated and the dems have 60…

How cool is it that the fate of America turns out to be in the hands of Al Franken. It is like an absurdist comedy.

  2. pandora says:

This is becoming a joke, and has more to do with delaying Franken from being seated than counting ballots.

  3. M. McKain says:

It is perfect, too, that the man who wrote “Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot” will become a Senator at a time when Limbaugh’s “power” over Republicans is resurging.

I’ve been following the court case pretty closely, it’s been one of my mini-obsessions. Coleman’s case is a joke and in one of those cosmic ironies most of Coleman’s strategies add to Franken’s total and not Coleman’s. It’s funny because the Coleman team is not afraid to argue one thing and then turn around and argue against the same thing later. It’s almost like they don’t have a case besides “count my votes and not his.”

As far as the credit card info goes, I read that a security company discovered the problem in January and notified the Coleman campaign. The Coleman campaign didn’t do anything about it until it was discovered by someone else. I wonder how many of Coleman’s donors regret giving him money now?

As far as the revote goes, that is only a fantasy of Norm Coleman and the media.

Coleman makes Al Gore look even more honorable. Can you say sore loser?

They have simply been assigned the task of keeping Franken out of the Senate as long as possible, no matter how foolish they may look. And Coleman was up to that challenge.

Aw DV you are such a dick!! Inter was just unlucky. Zlatan had two clean chances that somehow stayed out in the first half… Adriano’s side volley was kept out only by the woodwork… Cambiasso had a clear chance late on… Damn it I fucking hate United… all 3 EPL clubs are through… all 3 Serie A squads are out and you have to bring it up on an unrelated post… what a complete cunt bag you are!!

We need to support Barca and Bayern in the Champion’s League now!!

  8. Is it possible the wingnuts are delaying Franken’s seating precisely b/c he wrote “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot”?

After all, isn’t he the one calling all the shots for them now?

  9. cassandra m says:

The wingnuts are delaying Franken’s seating because trying to overturn election results they don’t like is what they do. Can you imagine if the tables were reversed? Franken would be called every unpatriotic name in the book.

It is silly to call for Coleman to do the honorable thing, because honor is not in the wingnut lexicon, but the sooner this is done the sooner Coleman and Santorum can start their Islamics Don’t Do Democracy Tour together.

  10. Unstable Isotope says:

I think Republicans are trying to set up Franken as the next liberal boogieman and claims of “stolen election” are part of that plan. I find it ironic though that a lot of the money going to Coleman’s team right now will probably end up in the hands of Franken and his lawyers (loser pays court cost).

  11. pandora says:

I’d advise conservatives to pick another target. When it comes to effective comebacks Franken is in the Jon Stewart category. Go up against a comedian at your own risk.

  12. Truth Teller says:

When is the new AG going to indite Norm for taking the $75,000 bribe?????????????
