The LA Times has an article about a report presented to the 25x’25 summit in Virginia that says that offshore wind could provide more electricity than the US currently uses.
The biggest wind potential lies off the nation’s Atlantic coast, which the Interior report estimates could produce 1,000 gigawatts of electricity — enough to meet a quarter of the national demand.
We knew this. Delaware has enough offshore wind to support current demand and even to export some to the west the the mid-atlantic power path (MAPP). The current proposal off the coast won’t provide that level of power (Conectiv and Harris McDowell did drive the capacity down for Bluewater to cut the deal) but hopefully we will have some more states sign on and build this thing up.
One of the more intriguing parts of the story was the last line, which will directly affect the Bluewater plan.
He pledged to finalize guidelines for such development, which the Bush administration failed to complete before leaving office, within about two months.
This could finally get us some off-shore wind here in Delaware and the associated green-collar jobs that we need.
