Defense of Marriage FAIL

Filed in National by on April 21, 2009

The GOP bigots are getting mounted up to go on the offensive on the subject of gay marriage and they’ve decide on who leads the charge:

Newt Gingrich — married three times, adulterer, and douchebag for leaving one wife while she was getting cancer treatments, annulling others and getting all Catholic after the fact. Newtie is running around telling the world — without irony — that “The Democratic Party has been the active instrument of breaking down traditional marriage…

Rudy Guiliani — known cross-dresser and also married three times, “Rudy Giuliani is declaring war on gay marriage — vowing to use his strong opposition of it against the Democrats if he runs for governor next year. The former mayor, in an extended interview with The Post, also predicted that Gov. Paterson’s high-profile effort to legalize gay marriage would anger many New Yorkers and spark a revolt that could help sweep Republicans into office in 2010…

“Marriage, I believe, both traditionally and legally, has always been between a man and a woman and should remain between a man and woman,” said Giuliani, who has been married three times…”

As Bob Cesca pointed out, between them, these guys have as many wives as Henry VIII, and they are out and about hectoring people on the sanctity of marriage. It used to be that divorce was the scourge of marriage, because it meant that people were ditching their vows and disrespecting the sacrament. Now we have two men who are serial disrespectors of vows and sacraments having on about not allowing gay people the basic right to marry. It would elude them forever that a gay couple who have been committed to each other for 20 years have more credibility on the business of marriage than either Rudy or Newtie will ever have.

Fast forward to the republican convention:

“Marriage, I believe, both traditionally and legally, has always been between a man and a woman, and then another better looking woman, then an even BETTER looking woman, then a woman half the age of that woman.”

    Sweet hypocrisy!

  3. anon says:

Or Tina Fey as Palin: “Marriage should be a sacred bond between two reluctant teenagers.”

  4. Unstable Isotope says:

    LOL Jason.

Hypocrisy, they name is GOP. The GOP is totally clueless, aren’t they?

  5. Geezer says:

It should also be noted that neither man practiced serial monogamy — in both men’s cases, adultery was involved. People never note that sin in pointing out either man’s foibles, but they should. “Adulterer” — or, more accurately, “serial adulterer” — stings the God squadders more than “married three times.”

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

I wish someone would introduce a bill that bans divorce just to see them twist themselves in knots trying to argue (for or against) it. [Note: I do not support a bill like that.]

  7. Perry says:

The origin of much of this anti-gay bigotry is Christian religion based, making these opponents of gay marriage guilty of attempting to violate the separation of church and state instead of supporting the Bill of Rights.

We are not like some Muslim countries, attempting to practice our version of sharia law, are we?

Sometimes I wonder what these social conservatives really want, ultimately.

What they really want has nothing to do with our Constitutional foundations. In other words, they represent anarchy!

  8. anonone says:

Rudy Guiliani is just trying to score some points with Miss California. No, it isn’t what you think.

He isn’t after her; what he really wants is her gown.

  9. Another Mike says:

When I heard Newt is now a Catholic, it made me want to check some other churches out. Why us?

  10. pandora says:

Because he got a brand new soul.

  11. cassandra_m says:

Because his current wife is Catholic. And the whole thing has the whiff of everlasting desperation about it.

And Geezer is quite right to note the serial adultery of these two. Nothing like reminding the holier than though crowd that their heros are imperfect culture warriors and provide no intimidation to the rest of us whatsoever.
