  1. Nope. One day, though.

  2. a. price says:

Once on local tv.. i performed at First Night when i was 10, than i was drunk in a bar in philly during the playoffs last year taunting C C Sabathia

  3. Nosy says:

I was on Channel 28 at a Kahunaville show several years ago. Funny thing is somebody actually recognized me! I’m not kidding. I was walking through McGlynn’s one night on my way to the restroom and some guy stopped me and said, “Didn’t I see you on the Tim Quails show the other night?” I almost died! I was only in a shot where they panned the audience. Well, I may have been up and dancing too . . . I probably made an impression with my dance moves. A bad impression!

  4. pandora says:

Cassandra and I were on channel 12 on Obama’s Inauguration day! We were filmed toasting with glasses of Prosecco.

  5. Unstable Isotope says:

    Yes.

When I was a senior in high school, I appeared in a show called “homework hotline” on the local PBS station. You’d be surprised how many people recognize you.

When I went to the YearlyKos convention (now Netroots Nation) in ’06 and ’07 I was on camera several times, including when I asked a question. It was shown on CSPAN. Several people from work saw me on it, which was strange because they didn’t know I went to a conference on politics.

  6. PI says:

I was on Captain Kangaroo once with Mr Greenjeans.

  7. nemski says:

I’m sorry, UI, but CSPAN doesn’t count. 🙂

  8. nemski says:

I was on Letterman back in November 1993. Guesting were Marilu Henner and Father Guido Sarducci.

Okay, I was in the audience behind some college kids who were wearing t-shirts that spelled Dave. Letterman did a bit about them and the camera panned to them.

  9. RSmitty says:

Yes, and at this stage of my life, I admit it is a little embarrassing, but eff it.

I was a “permanent guest” (meaning I came in at least weekly, but not a daily performer) of Channel 17’s Dancing On Air, and two-times-per-week on USA-Cable’s Dance Party, USA. They were both recorded at the same studio. They did two shows of Dance Party on Monday, the one day per week I went up.

This was in 1986 to early-1987 (my senior year of HS, so it was cool…THEN). A friend of mine was a regular, but her friends stopped going (they slipped into the budding goth scene, so this dancing stuff was s0-not-‘there’). She didn’t want to drive to Philly alone, so she promised to “sneak” me in (which, in retrospect, was incredibly easy to do). She did and while I was there, I added my name to the “permanent guest” list and my fame was forever etched.

Hey, you just go on believing whatever it takes to deal with this.

  11. pandora says:

Are there videos, Smitty? Inquiring minds want to know…

  12. RSmitty says:

I hope to hell NOT. I am certain, though, that certain enterprising minds that we all know have already started the search.

anon#10 – yes, I repeat that to myself everynight as I slowly fall asleep. It’s sort of like the “There’s no place like home” chant Dorothy repeats on Wizard of Oz.

  13. anonone says:

I think it is STILL cool, RSmitty!

  14. nemski says:

Brian Shields wrote Nope. One day, though.

As long as it is not Cops or a reenactment on America’s Most Wanted.

  15. RSmitty says:

Damn it, A1, do I know you?!

  16. cassandra_m says:

Brian is a Libertarian, nemski — you definitely don’t want to get all nanny state on his choices to fame.

  17. Miscreant says:

I did a public service announcement on marine safety. I was told it at aired on most of the local stations, usually after midnight. Then I appeared as *window dressing* with (then) Gov. Carper to endorse one of his few initiatives I supported. After that, I learned to keep a low profile.

  18. liberalgeek says:

Funny that Smitty said Dancing on Air. My first TV experience was there on March 17, 1983 (I think). It was St Patricks day, but our instructions were to wear “Upscale Dress” which we did. Unfortunately, the producer at Dancing on Air wanted everyone to be wearing green. Most of us weren’t.

Anyway, they let us stay on, but avoided us with the cameras. So I appeared as “bobbing head in the background (sounds like a porn credit).

Next time I was on TV, channel 2 interviewed me after a Tom Carper debate (1990?) where I was identified erroneously identified as “Wilmington College student” (I was at UD at the time).

Finally, on election night in 2008 I was correctly identified as “Delaware Liberal” Which some uninformed people interpreted as a title instead of the name of the blog. I figure I have used up about 60 seconds of my 15 minutes of fame.

  19. nemski says:

Apparently more of us have been on TV than not. I find this quite odd.

  20. Von Cracker says:

Does Court TV count? heh…I kid.

Been on the boob-tube a few times…playing sports mostly, such as a locally televised HS wrestling match when we went to central PA….

  21. Truth teller says:

More times then I like to admit.

However off the subject for a sec. I see where another Repuk Congressman has gotten on his knees to beg forgiveness of Rush the Doper for making statements about the leader of the GOP which weren’t flattering. These Repuks have no guts how can we expect such weaklings to protect this country?

This guy set a record it only took 2 day from his remarks until he was forced to beg forgiveness from the fat one.

  22. Unstable Isotope says:

Which one, TT? I have an apology watch on Shadegg.

  23. RSmitty says:

@Geek: Funny that Smitty said Dancing on Air. My first TV experience was there on March 17, 1983

    1983? What were you, 12, 11?!

  24. RSmitty says:

TT – you threadjacker!!! Are you talking about Tiahrt? As of yesterday, he was more weasely than others that apologized before, in that he couldn’t even do it himself. Check my conversation with A1 about this, from yesterday.

  25. liberalgeek says:

Smitty – going on 13, yes. It could have been 1984, I guess…

  26. RSmitty says:

My point was that he has had his lackey handle the duty, so even more weasel of the dude.

  27. Shannyn says:

    Yep. I prefer radio…

  28. Mrs XStryker says:

1986, there was a crazy snow-storm in October which caused us to lose our electricity (which in my house also meant no running water or heat). So we all went to the firehouse to the town’s shelter. While we were there, the Hartford ABC affilliate came to interview people. I went over to the reporter and asked him if he wanted “A kid’s point of view” and really, could he have possibly said no? I was so adorable I was put right on. Of course.

Also, I was on TRL (MTV Countdown show) with Dave Holmes at some point in college, and then last year when Obama spoke in Rodney Square I was interviewed on 6ABC. Oh, and I was an on-air radio personality when X and I lived on Long Island.

  29. Another Mike says:

First time was in high school. I was interviewed by someone from Channel 2 when I attended a convention for teens at UD. I’ve been on many times since, mostly working on press row at various college basketball games and in a few crowd shots. I should have been on once for my one-handed catch of a Ray Lankford foul ball at Veterans Stadium some years back, but the bastards didn’t show it. You could hear the crowd cheering, though.

  30. RSmitty says:

Picking the ball up, off of the steps does not count as catching it with one hand, poser! 😛
