Open Source Open Letter To Celia Cohen

Filed in National by on April 23, 2009

Looks like Celia Cohen is back to blogging. I’d like to lay down some ground rules so that the blog community can welcome her back without misgivings, so I’ve drafted an open letter to her that I’d like you guys to help me shape up a bit.

We all know that blogger ethics are a hot topic, and I would not want Cohen’s return to blogging to paint us all as unethical, so full disclosure is in order.

Open Letter to Celia – Draft 1
Celia,

Welcome back. You didn’t quite make it a year away from the blogs, but we all know that blogging is a more demanding mistress than crack cocaine, so no more about that.

We, your fellow Delaware Political bloggers, wanted to ask you a couple of favors as you get started “reporting” on Delaware politics and political personalities. First of all we want you to disclose who is funding your column at Delaware Today and how much they are paying to have you appear in those pages. We think that this would go a long way toward establishing your credibility.

Doing so will either expose your writing to be the product of a transparently biased blogger, or of a credible PR flack. We are curious to find out which profession you have chosen this time around.

We also think that you should also disclose any agreements, formal or otherwise, that you’ve struck with your sponsors regarding the content and tone of your forthcoming advertorials. Again, knowing up front that Mike Castle has paid “X” dollars for your famous back rubs during an election year would  help rebuild your reputation for forthrightness that took such a shellacking over the past 8 years while you defended Mike Castle’s “moderation” in spite of his transparentlyundeniably partisan pro-Bush voting record.

People have to make a living, so we have no problem with whatever financial agreements that you have entered into with Pete DuPont and Mike Castle with Delaware Today as the financial intermediary. All we desire is transparency.

Sincerely,

    How about adding:

“And this time, turn your comments on so Delawareans can actually respond in real time to whatever it is you’re writing about. A “Letters” section is so old media.”

  2. Belinsky says:

Jason’s head explodes. A blogger who actually digs for news, instead of linking to something Atrios posted 48 hours ago.

Her first article reminds that it was Delaware Grapevine that broke the story of Ted Blunt’s self-indulgent trot around the LG track: http://www.delawaregrapevine.com/5-07blunt.asp

  3. jason330 says:

    Belinsky,

Honestly, that was a pitiful attempt. Posted on May 21st 2007, that is an example of the “journalism” we can expect?

We learned exactly what from that blog post? That Tom Carper wanted to cut a deal between Carney and Markell? [Shocking!] She pushed that tired story line like the paid for lackey she was/is. Too bad is was 100% bullshit from jump street.

    FAIL.

Try agin. On second thought don’t. Let’s decide to let Celia’s future “journalism” speak for itself.

If you are honest, you’ll be coming back here ot tell me how right I was all along.

  4. Belinsky says:

Jason: Readers are confused. Are you saying that (1) Carper didn’t try to align Carney and Markell into a Gov/LG ticket; or (2) Carper did try, but it was wicked of him to do so, and the story should haven’t been published? Or are you relying on the generic “blsht” out of simple frustration?

  5. jason330 says:

    WTF?

Everyone knew that shit. I think she is coming back, in part, because El Somnambulo has made her “reporting” look like the meanderings of a special 7th grader.

But this is stupid. You like her for some unknowable reasons. And I don’t like her for obvious reasons. Just come came here after Celia gives Castle a couple of free blow jobs and we’ll talk.

  6. Belinsky says:

Jason gets especially literate on Thursday evenings. Fecal references. The obligatory fellatatory comment. Quotation marks without apparent reason [thrice around “journalism” and its synonym]. Insisting that reporting be vetted to fit a political narrative. [Don’t write about Carper trying to broker a deal, or Markell willing to take LG, because, oh, whatever…]

Especially notable that even though Cohen broke the story, it didn’t count because, Jason sez “everyone knew.”

Of course. They read it in the Grapevine.

  7. R Smitty says:

Dude…is there some unspoken yearning of love going on here (and, no, I don’t mean Jason)?

  8. R Smitty says:

I got my DT today. I’ll have to look for the ad that “Nooneimportant” mentions in the other thread.

I do think there is another PT gig for her that has not yet been mentioned. Let’s just say that NCCo will not be recipients of that gig. That’s what I have been told, anyway. Stay tuned (I guess).

  9. jason330 says:

    Keep talking shit Belinsky.

You’ll be long gone when Castle gets deep throated by Celia’s “reporting” and her “journalism.”

  10. Delaware Dem says:

Ok, I just read her first post since her return. And I want those three minutes back, damnit. The complaint about we bloggers is that all we do is speculate and criticize in our posts, whereas Celia does actual reporting. Well, after reading her return piece, I was struck that it was nothing but speculation. Castle is running? Carper is not?

    Hahahaha.

So the difference between Celia and us is that she never criticizes.

Another difference is that we report actual facts once and a while, like the bothersome fact (bothersome to the Castle fantasizers, anyway) that Castle is not raising money for a run for the Senate or for a competitive House run against Carney.

Oh yes, and Celia… the house race is not “enticing” Carney, for that implies Carney is considering a run but had not made up his mind yet. You may want to check the paper, but Carney announced his candidacy last week. Yes, I actually had to check the time stamp on Celia’s post to make sure it was not posted a month ago.

  11. R Smitty says:

Just remember, address her as “Queen Blogger.” Didn’t like it then, sure as to hell won’t now.

  12. anonone says:

    Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…..

Now I know why Jason is flipping out. Ms Cohen quotes Castle as saying “If I run for something, I could very likely run for the Senate. There is some reasonable chance I will not be running for the House.”

Guess you’re gonna have to unroll those ding-dongs…

  13. R Smitty says:

No, damn it, NOT DONG DONGS!

Will you two get your sexually implicit, hydrogonized fat, yet delicious, desert-names CORRECT?!

You don’t unroll DING DONGS, you unroll HO-HOs, damn it!

Ding-dongs and ho-ho’s from the same company. Hostess should be PROUD! I mean, very disappointed in themselves.

  14. jason330 says:

“If I run for something, I could very likely run for the Senate. There is some reasonable chance I will not be running for the House.”

Pure bullshit. Castle will not run for the Senate.

  15. jason330 says:

Oh yes, and Celia… the house race is not “enticing” Carney, for that implies Carney is considering a run but had not made up his mind yet. You may want to check the paper, but Carney announced his candidacy last week. Yes, I actually had to check the time stamp on Celia’s post to make sure it was not posted a month ago.

    Classic. Suck it Belinsky.

  16. R Smitty says:

Oh, BTW…just discovered something. The fifth thumbnail pic on the Ding Dong link is kinda NSFW. Granted, it’s a thumbnail and it’s a pic of food, but if you see it, you will know what I mean.

  17. Belinsky says:

When Jason can’t think of an answer [at least one that doesn’t involve barnyard droppings or a sucking sound], his spittle comes through the monitor.

Mrs. Jason must have a wonderful life.

  18. jason330 says:

Man oh man. I can’t get over how lame Celia’s return post on her blog was.

For a blogger of her stature, you would expect a blog post that didn’t suck like this:

His more serious possibilities are running for the Senate, running for the 10th time for the House of Representatives (in a race that is enticing John Carney) or retiring. No matter what, the voters should know his choice shortly.

A race that is enticing John Carney? As Del Dem pointed out…WTF? Did she write that three weeks ago? These blog posts can be updated you know Celia. They are not stamped out on tin plates.

    And another thing…

“I’ve got to make a decision, and I think I owe it to the Republican Party to make it relatively soon. In the next month or two, it’s got to be finalized. I really don’t need to focus on a political decision right now, but I understand the nature of the beast,” he said.

“If I run for something, I could very likely run for the Senate. There is some reasonable chance I will not be running for the House.”

My deep cover source in Castle’s office confirms that there is no way in hell he is running for the Senate – so Cohen and Castle are up to their old tricks.

SO we have to ask…who gains by Castle pretending that he is going to run for the Senate? Who is the beneficiary of that?

I’ll tell you tomorrow. While you wait you can set a timer. Castle just promised to admit that he is not running for the Senate by June 25th.

  19. jason330 says:

    Belinsky,

Celia proved my point better than I could.

  20. Belinsky says:

She indeed does many things better than thee.

  21. jason330 says:

Verily. The kissing of Mike Castle ass comes to mind.

  22. liberalgeek says:

Belinsky – full-discolsure… How much did you donate to Celia?

  23. Geezer says:

“Of course. They read it in the Grapevine.”

Oh, my aching sides. Why would you believe anything that appears on a not-a-blog that won’t reveal its funding source?

  24. cassandra_m says:

Geezer has exactly the real issue with the new blog — how do you know it isn’t just astroturf?

  25. RSmitty says:

It’s really hard to not see Belinsky as a shill…or Celia herself. Nah, not the latter, but I will go for the former.
