‘Bulo Seeks Help from Internet Sophisticates

The Beast who Slumbers has been cruising  surfing the nets for some time now. He likes to think that he is able to learn new things. He has long since figured out what ROTFLMAO and YMMV mean. He has even coined one himself, ‘IESHO’, meaning ‘in El Somnambulo’s Humble Opinion’. He has learned all sorts of cool shortcut abbreviations like b/c. He has even learned advanced techniques like ‘cut-and-paste’ and recently added ’embedding’ to his substantial arsenal.

However, two new phrases, acronyms, or whatever have insidiously wended their ways onto this and other blogs, and, absent proof, ‘bulo suspects they are being used to make fun of him.

So, El Somnmabulo beseeches thee, what do the following mean?:

“pwns” and

“teh”

And, just to put his mind at ease, please tell him that the phrase ‘bulo brings teh stupid’ is not meant as an insult.

    ‘bulo brings teh stupid’ is an insult.

    Sorry. You were pwnd.

  2. Geezer

    You can look them up on the inter-tubes. Both use misspellings for comic (sarcastic?) effect.

    Be careful, though: Researching this will inevitably lead you to lol cats.

    pnwed can from bad programming or a Japanese programmer with poor English skills…

    It’s a graphic a game player saw when the boss was defeated in a particular video game.

    Teh comes from typing too fast without proofreading.

  5. Don’t feel bad, I have been on the Internet since before browsers and Xstryker had to explain FTW to me. I thought for sure I had the first word…

  6. Here’s what ‘bulo has learned. He has learned his first two words of ‘leetspeak’. He hopes they are his last two as leetspeak is ‘teh suck’.

    Well Bulo, I always thought DelDem was wishing me Lots of Luck, but my kids told me about 8 months ago it meant Laugh Out Loud (LOL), when I didn’t understand the response.

    And Pandora is a gem to answer and clean-up all the “text” speak, and blog idioms. So no “tin foil hat” needed around here!

    AFK = away from keyboard
    AFAIK = as far as I know
    LOL = laugh out loud
    teh = the
    ROFL = rolling on the floor laughing
    IOKIYAR = it’s o.k. if you’re a Republican (see DV’s post above)
    FWIW = for what it’s worth
    IIRC = if I remember correctly
    pwnd = “owned”
    FTW = for the win

    Urban dictionary is usually the place to look for abbreviations.

    “FTW = for the win”

    WTF?

  10. LOL, Joanne. I’m not that far ahead of you when it comes to text speak.

  11. HarrisonBergeron

    urbandictionary.com can usually give you definitions for these kind of things.

  12. For the win, as used in HollyWood Squares. “El Somnambulo for the win, please.”

    it has been reworked to mean “the best”

    Like on this site Jason may comment on a thread for top GOP Douchnozzles: “Mike Castle FTW.”
