UPDATED: Vote Today! Kim Williams and Eric Randolph for Red Clay School Board

Filed in Delaware by on May 12, 2009

School Board Elections are POLLS OPEN until 8PM.  No need to be a registered voter.

…………………………………………………………………………………………

I was going to write a post about why Kim Williams and Eric Randolph deserve every Red Clay residents’ support, but then someone went ahead and did it for me.

Please go read Mike Matthews’ post, and then go vote for Kim and Eric!

Note: I would like to thank all the candidates who took the time to answer our questions.  That said, I am very disappointed that Marguarite Vavalla and William Hall didn’t respond.  I know very little about Mr. Hall and have received no mailers/phone calls promoting his candidacy – I have also received no promotional material from Ms. Vavalla.  I sent Mr. Hall the same email as everyone else, and even followed up with another email asking, again, for his opinions.  His lack of response gave me little to vote on, or for.

This lack of campaigning/informing certain areas of the District is one of my biggest problems with school board elections.  It’s a numbers game, and given the low turn-out, one that’s easy to win.  And I’m not buying the it’s good that only the people who care about school issues vote excuse, because it’s simply not true.  How can voters care if the candidates ignore them?

My other pet peeve is the notion that School Board Elections aren’t political.  Again, go read Mike’s post.  He lays out Red Clay’s history extremely well.

Today’s assignment: Ask people if they voted today (just like you did last November), and report back your answers.  My bet is you’ll hear one of three answers. 1) Yes.  2) I don’t know anything about the candidates. 3) Vote for what?  Is there an election today?
