Tone Deaf or Payoff?

Filed in Delaware by on May 22, 2009

There are rumors swirling around the Delaware Republican Party that they have a new communication team.  This is the team that will be tasked with redefining the tarnished brand that is “Republican” and to reframe the debate into something that will resonate with Delaware voters.  Quite a task.

Who is up for a job like that?  A knowledge of modes of communication to reach voters through new media, traditional media and tools to remake the way that they do business is no easy task.  So, whats a dying party to do?

Start a pilot program.

working on a tech strategy for the Delaware GOP #tcot #techgop

Seriously?  Protack and O’Neill?

I wonder if the Republicans have made a deal with the devil to avert some sort of party fight at their convention or if they really believe that Protack’s “chuck and duck” offense is really the path to a new birth of Republicanism in Delaware.

In the name of all that is router, why?

  2. nemski says:

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha.

  3. nemski says:

As I said on our Twitter page (though this time with the correct spelling), watch the Delaware Republicans remarket themselves is like watching Itchy and Scratchy without the laughs.

  4. Geezer says:

Maybe this was Mike’s plan all along — drive everyone halfway sane out of the party and there will be nobody left to deny him whatever nomination he wants.

I still hope he gets the nomination for some real office so that the voters can send him the direct message that the GOP establishment has been sending him for years — nobody wants to put you in charge of anything outside a cockpit.

  5. Considering how the DEMs usurped the best of Delaware’s political journalists for themselves, double bwah ha ha ha ha ha.

  6. So, how big a budget does the DE GOP have for routers?

  7. Bushystache says:

So, how big a budget does the DE GOP have for routers?
What’s the usage rate at Kinko’s?

  8. MJ says:

    Shouldn’t that be stratergery?

  9. Sounds like a step in the right direction. I approve.

  10. RSmitty says:

Really, David? You’d approve of a communications director that frequently tosses out things like “stupid” and “pathetic” when describing people? How about this little gem where he said:

Rsmitty, total loser, coward and whiner. Stay at your keyboard and pontificate about things you know nothing about. You are as important as the piece of dried up gum on the bottom of my shoe.

Typical idiotic liberal attacks. Your policies are a killing the country and the state.

When given the chance to recant, he replied:
The comment stands and so does the success of the Tea Party in Wilmington.

THAT rhetoric is what you want as a communications director, who is also handler of PR?

Seriously, how can someone be (possibly – still rumor, apparently) put into that position who has no idea (at least I hope he has no idea, given…) about digital footprints and the damage of ill-chosen words?

  11. We have lots of lovely comments by Protack here. He “communicates” to us regularly.

  12. Here is one more. I thought Randy Smith was leaving the party? I still care not one bit about him or anything he says or does, now or any time in the future.

Fact is you guys can’t deal with a GOP communications program which speaks about real issues. At least 90% of this blog is nothing but personal attacks and stupid comments.

Rain Man and Forrest Gump could provide a more logical explanation of daily events.

Still, I look forward to you defending 10% unemployment, losses at both union car plants, huge tax state increases, soon to be huge federal tax increases and a unprecedented budget shortfalls.

Yes, the GOP will have a vibrant and strong communications effort. We will offer ideas on issues and point out the massive failures of the Democrat control of this state.

Possibly, the congested roads, underperforming schools, budget shortfall, doubling of unemployment and rampant crime are good things?

    Mike Protack

  13. cassandra_m says:

GOP communications run by a known liar? I thought that this was SOP. And if you have any question on that score, just read this site for awhile.

I should have known that the massive effort to practice your disinformation over here was an audition for something.

All Dems responding to GOP BS now — need to point and laugh. And ask us to help you find where Protack has contradicted himself on something here. We’ll be delighted to help you remind everyone that these guys simply refuse to deal with anyone — even themselves — honestly.

  14. FSP says:

Mike — Randy Smith is 10 times the Republican that you’ll ever be. He’s managed wins. I know that word “wins” might be foreign to you, so let me explain. It’s when you get MORE votes than your opponent. And Randy did it in unfriendly territory. So your pathetic ass needs to not only apologize, but then you need to turn around and get on your damn knees and BEG Randy Smith to teach you something about how to win, you pathetic waste of space.

A Republican Party with you developing the “tech strategy” is guaranteed to lose as bad as you always have. You couldn’t strategize your way out of a wet paper bag.

And you should be ashamed for EVER posting under the name Delaware Republican.

You, sir, are a disgrace. You always have been and you always will be. And anyone sanctioning your participation in the party should either have their head examined or be shown the door.

  15. Dave – did you look at the Twitter post? Mike did not post it. I did.

  16. FSP says:

By the way, douchebag, we’re still looking for that lawsuit.

    Fraud.

  17. FSP says:

Yeah, Jason. But you didn’t make the comment.

  18. FSP says:

And you wouldn’t, because you’re not a complete ass.

  19. FSP says:

And I guess my third annual hiatus from Delaware Liberal is over.

May the ad hominems and personal attacks flow for the rest of the glorious summer!

  20. anon says:

Protack says: At least 90% of this blog is nothing but personal attacks and stupid comments.

If Protack would leave politics we could get that down to maybe 85%.

  21. nemski says:

Nice to have you back FSP — I mean it.

  22. FSP says:

I am waiting with bated breath for the first nemski insult. I mean it, too.

  23. anonymous says:

The GOP’s new communications director is the guy who could only get news coverage by crashing Jack Markell’s press conferences? The guy who dragged Bill Lee through the dirt for months and couldn’t break 30% against him in the primary?

It’s time to close down that office on Lancaster Avenue. There are no signs of intelligent life there.

  24. Delaware Dem says:

    where is my popcorn?

  25. DD,

I think there’s been a run on popcorn recently.

  26. Man, I love the laughs.

For Cassandra, keep looking. I am consistent which is why you guys are attacking, you have nothing. Inconsistent is Obama and his record is anti business, anti capitalism and anti freedom yet his speeches are so sing song.

Crashing press conferences? Nope, I called ahead to attend and got the ok because eminent domanin abuse is and was government tyranny.

Good ole Dave. Speaking of failures, how many enterprises have you driven into the ground? How is that brilliant idea of internet radio? Too many failures to count it seems. Keep trying, possibly you can sell hot dogs at a carnival this summer. Simple fact, damages have to come from some sort of assets-you have none. I can give you a loan if you need one.

I would not Randy Smith what day of the week it is nor would I ask you what time of day it is. Dave, facts are pretty simple you were shown the door and is it closed on you pretty firmly.

In 2006 and 2008 the GOP nominees for Senate and Governor lost 3 to 1 and 2 to 1. We forgot to talk about issues which matter and voters forgot to vote for the Republican party.

Again, thanks for the laughs and for those who served in the military or lost a family member in service to our country, have a safe Memorial Day.

    Mike Protack
    Delaware Republican

PS ” It’s time to close down that office on Lancaster Avenue. There are no signs of intelligent life there”.

We have to turn on the lights around Delaware for the Republican Party not on Lancaster Pike.

  27. FSP says:

Mike – you certainly are the expert on failure. How’s your party, the IPOD? And why is it that at the convention, everybody was coming to me to ask how we mount a comeback, and all they were doing with you is trying to avoid any contact?

And I love how you trample on entrepreneurs. Since you know nothing about how to create jobs, you should probably keep your pathetic mouth shut. Of the businesses i’ve owned, they currently employ 50 people. I’m proud of that, and no pathetic loser can take that away from me.

  28. cassandra_m says:

I am consistent which is why you guys are attacking, you have nothing.

You are consistent in talking out of your ass, never knowing a fact when it jumps up and hits you and prone to just making shit up when you can’t find your talking points. Keep it up buddy — one day you’ll know what we know — that whatever credibility you had is permanently gone.

Stop with the lame attempts to dump on Smitty. He has something that you will never be able to get — credibility.

    One more thing:

In 2006 and 2008 the GOP nominees for Senate and Governor lost 3 to 1 and 2 to 1. We forgot to talk about issues which matter and voters forgot to vote for the Republican party.

Can I point out, Protack, that you were at Ground Zero of this debacle? You can’t believe that we would forget that you were running for Gov, right? So don’t start with the finger-pointing until you know how it is that you quite specifically quite undermined the effort.

    Welcome back FSP.

  29. nemski says:

Delaware Liberal — a place for Republicans to fight each other.

  30. FSP says:

“Delaware Liberal — a place for Republicans to fight each other.”

No offense, but when I start missing nemski, something’s awry.

  31. The fight’s too big to be contained by one blog.

  32. RSmitty says:

What an incredible morning when I see comments like FSP (#14) and Cass (#28). Wow! Thanks!

Oh…the new love fest between nemski anf FSP. Double wow! What’s next? Cats and dogs making Dats or Cogs?

So, it really seems that through typical non-denial, that Mike really has been appointed to something. If that’s true, some ‘splaining needs to be done.

  33. FSP says:

And I missed this nugget last night: “Dave, facts are pretty simple you were shown the door and is it closed on you pretty firmly.”

The door is closed? On what? A party so obviously desperate that they would allow you in the door? You ought to share that with all the people who are trying to get me to run their campaigns and trying to convince me to actually come up with a tech strategy for the party, since I’m not a social leper like you are and actually understand something about the Inter-tubes.

Also, I stand at the ready to organize another convention beatdown like the last one. You might remember it. You got beat 80-20 by a guy who was 8 states away.

Still waiting for that lawsuit, liar. My net worth is just fine, and it will never be dented by your pretend lawsuit.

  34. RSmitty says:

Honestly, to the state leadership of the GOP (cuz we all know they come here often 😆 ), this is the potential mouthpiece to the public?

I’m starting to wonder if DL is actually paying them on the sly, because material like this certainly can’t be free! 😛

  35. Smitty,

That’s what we’ve been asking ourselves as well.

  36. The Grappler who Slumbers has a rasslin’ question for El Burrito Junior and Senor Prozac:

Is this a ‘work’ (where the ‘fight’ has been choreographed in advance) or a ‘shoot’ (where the enmity crosses the line and becomes ‘real’)?

Either way, ‘bulo suggests an Extreme Rules match to settle the score. El Burrito Junior can smack Senor Prozac over the head with the entire collected works of Ayn Rand while Senor Prozac can run to the back, claiming that he’s the victim of a case of mistaken identity, and that his real name is ‘Delaware Republican’, ‘Libs R Dum’, or ‘Mr. Pornstache Potato(‘e’, in honor of Dan Quayle)head’.

‘Bulo knows a guy who can get that match on cable-access TV. Paging Rev. ‘Twin’ B. Brown…

  37. laughing says:

It’s amazing how out of touch this blog is sometimes. Protack has no official role in the party, nor is he going to be communications director or anything else. He’s the one who started the rumors, because, no doubt, he thinks he’d be the best at it, just like he thinks he’s the best candidate. If a guy can’t win a delagate battle or a primary, what hope does he have to win a general election–answer: none. Anyway, Protack is not going to be anything for the party. Don’t mistake his blogs and postings for anything by the party.

  38. Art Downs says:

How many of those with such strong opinions have engaged in any real activism over the years?

    Just wondering…..

  39. rhubard says:

“It’s amazing how out of touch this blog is sometimes.”

Right. Because the only worthwhile blogging comes from people who have a hand in either the Democratic or Republican circle-jerks, I suppose.

  40. cassandra_m says:

No idea what Sad Sack Art is getting at here, but there are alot of people here involved in various types of activism and some of it political.

Not like being an activist is any prerequisite to actually holding a strong opinion.
