SCOTUS Pick To Be Announced Today
News reports are coming out that Obama plans to announce the pick of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court of the United States.
U.S. President Barack Obama tapped U.S. Circuit Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court on Tuesday, officials said, making her the first Hispanic in history picked to wear the robes of a justice.
Here’s her wikipedia page. Short story: she’s 54 years old, she is a Princeton (A.B.) and Yale grad (J.D.). She was first nominated by George H.W. Bush [hmm…it would be interesting to see if some current Republican Senators voted for her]. She was nominated by President Clinton to the Appeals Court.

Since he didn’t pick Robert Bork, John Yoo or Newt Gingrich, he is being partisan.
Also, I don’t think she’s a sociopath so Republicans will probably vote “no” on those grounds.
I predict that unless something comes out, she will get 80 plus votes.

There should be a full court press on her legal decisions, how many times she has been over turned etc.
For those who think this avenue is harsh, remember what Ted Kennedy said about Bork, he accused Bork of wanting blacks to eat at different lunch counters and drive women to back alleys.
She is a marginal choice at best nand has more to do with dem politics than the law.

Well, if there is someone here that is an expert at the marginal choice, it would be Protack.
I think with the “for” list above, the CW is that Sotomayor will have no problem getting confirmed. Specter has already come out with praise. We really only need a couple of Republicans to break a potential filibuster, and a couple up there were in the “Gang of 14.”
