Bad News for Specter

Filed in National by on June 2, 2009

A new poll by Susquehanna indicates high support among Democratic voter for a primary.

As you may know, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter recently switched from Republican to Democrat. Should Arlen Specter be the Democratic nominee for the 2010 election for US Senate or should he face a challenge from one or more other Democrats in the primary?

1. Specter should be nominee 28%

2. Specter should face challenge 63%

3. Undecided 32 09%

The question was asked only of Pennsylvania Dems. The number who want right to choose between Specter and one or more other Dems (63%) is more than twice the number who don’t (28%).

There was better news for Specter over the weekend, a poll showed him with a large lead over Sestak and above 50% support. I actually think those numbers are fairly soft for such a well-known name, but Sestak certainly has an uphill climb.

A new Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group poll in Pennsylvania found Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) way ahead of Rep. Joe Sestak (D) in a possible Democratic primary match up, 56% to 16% with 16% undecided.

I think Specter is going to find that he is like the guy who traded a rotten pumpkin for a dead cat.

By the way, isn’t Castle gonna announce one way or the other soon?

Specter’s got bigger things to worry about than Sestak.

  4. Good point, A1. I thought Castle was supposed to announce on June 1?

Specter has a fight in front of him. If Democrats don’t fund Sestak, he will win the nomination, but polls show the race tightening between him and Toomey. If Toomey takes a real lead on Specter than his Democrat primary hopes will take a turn. I am hoping that Toomey doesn’t take that lead until May.
