‘Bulo’s Saturday Music for the Masses-Mysterious Thelonious Edition

Filed in National by on June 6, 2009

Thelonious. Sphere. Monk.

Perhaps the greatest name of all-time and inarguably the perfect name for the idiosyncratic genius who transformed jazz.

Also one of El Somnambulo’s all-time favorite composer/musicians in any genre.

Donald Fagen of Steely Dan said it best, “The ET in my bedroom was my Thelonious Monk records.”

Awesome. Monk is one of my favorites.

  3. You’re welcome, guys. ‘Bulo has more fun doing this weekly segment than anything else he writes.

It was tough narrowing today’s choices down, so anyone who wants to hear more should just google ‘Thelonious Monk’ and ‘youtube’.

Oh, and you should run out and get the 4-CD set, “Thelonious Monk-The Complete Blue Note Recordings”.

    That’s some seriously good list’nin’.
