Miller Endorsed by American Federation of Government Employees and Plumbers and Pipefitters?
I guess I missed this announcement that Miller was running again. But the thing about perennial candidates like Miller, Protack, and O’Donnell is that they are always running. Indeed, Mike has his campaign site updated for 2010.
But here is something interesting. Look closer at the bottom on the site:
Is this true? Endorsing Mike Miller over Carney and Spencer? I guess I missed that announcement too. Or is he just reposting an endorsement from these unions from a prior election? I think it might be the latter.
Those are not ‘local’ unions these are:
Afsme Council 81
Plumbers & Fitter #74
Maybe he is being supported by ‘heavyweights’ in other states or outter space. 😉
Well it is his seat.
Miller was endorsed by both for 2008, not 2010.
AFGE (I’m a member) represents Federal civilian employees. However, it is unheard of for a local to endorse a candidate without the approval of the National office, and I don’t believe AFGE has endorsed anyone in the 2010 elections. Local 1709 represents civilians in the bargaining unit at DAFB.

I learned about the process for union endorsements from John Kowalko and Jimmy Hussey. PDD based our endorsement procedures on those used by the unions — they have a good system for identifying candidates who support their core issues.
I cannot believe that anybody has received a public union endorsement for the 2010 cycle. It is way too early in the process.
For example, PDD hasn’t even elected our endorsement committee for the 2010 cycle yet. We’ll do that in November. Once the committee members are chosen by the rank-and-file, they go off for a couple of months to compose a questionaire. Then they propose the questionnaire to the members for tweeking and approval. Composing and approving the questionaire will take until March 2010. Then the questionaires have to be mailed, returned, and evaluated and scored. The semi-finalists get invited for an interview. Many nights are spent on interviews and evaluations. In some races, the committee may choose to keep their options open until after the candidate filing deadline in the last week of July. At that point they may decide they don’t like any of the candidates in a particular race and not endorse anyone.
As I said, we copied the unions’ process when we set up the PDD procedure and it works well. Any candidate who is claiming any endorsement at this stage in the cycle is making stuff up. Or, the endorsement is rash, self-serving, and purely worthless as a guide to voters.
This guy is Mike Protack with the paranoid and obnoxiousness knobs turned up to 11. And no, that’s not snark. I’ve met him, and I think he’s mentally ill.
