Honest Question II

Filed in National by on June 14, 2009

I guess the other one was tricky. Let’s see if our newbie wingnuts believe in gravity.

Is gravity responsible for keeping the Earth and the other planets in their orbits around the Sun?

not tricky, just not subject to your opinion. Of course the answer is yes.

  2. anon says:

if by wingnut you mean republican, not I.

  3. Didn’t you know God created physics? 😉

For the Nth time. The fact that George Bush was not a good President is not my opinion. It is a simple fact. Like the fact that gravity is responsible for keeping the Earth in its orbit around the sun.

    Get over yourself.

  5. Art Downs says:

This is something most of us learned in childhood and should not have forgotten. Isaac Newton said it all.

The math is easy. Now if someone could explain the underlying mechanism…….

    No. I am.

Trick question. The sun revolves around the Earth, silly! The Bible says so.

The socialists will figure it out before us.

  9. Chemistry is difficult for Art, though.

Apparently he was paying attention in his physics class either.

Sheesh. It ought to be illegal to have to deal with something that stupid this early on a Sunday morning.

“Apparently he was paying attention in his physics class either.”

Perhaps you could explain why there is gravity?

The ‘final causes’ explanation is as valid as any scientific explanation, since there is no proven scientific explanation (unless you have one).

Someone else who wasn’t paying attention, either. First you need to clarify whether you are speaking of gravity or gravitation. Second, you need to go back to your Newtonian physics which gives a (mathematical!) explanation of why there is gravity. Einstein provides major revisions to this, but Newtonian physics still works. You just don’t want to design an airplane with it.

  13. callerRick says:

“Newtonian physics which gives a (mathematical!) explanation of why there is gravity

Neither Newton nor Einstein gave any proven explanation whatsoever as to why gravity exists. We know the symptoms, not the cause.
