Don’t Call Me Liz!

Filed in National by on June 19, 2009

This is a funny, yet bizarre segment from Countdown last night. Congressman Jim McDermott’s staffer really, really objects to being called Liz in an email exchange. The re-enactment is hilarious!

Why was McDermott not charged for his clear violation of the Communications Act? Remember the ‘accidental’ intercept of a cell phone conversation involving (then) Representative Gingrich? The cock-and-bull story was that the interception was ‘accidental’ using a scanner and ‘accidentally’ recorded.

Those who know a bit about telecommunications are aware that scanners have cellular phone frequencies blocked to prevent such ‘accidents’. While Federal law does not prohibit interception of communications. it makes their divulging a serious crime. Handing out tapes of an intercepted conversatin certainly qualifies as ‘divulging’.
