GOP Social Hot Buttons Deactivated

Filed in National by on June 20, 2009

Gays: The liberals have won the day here. Or, if you like, Father Time and common sense have worked their magic. There will be the Fred Phelps of the world pitching their little hissy fits now and then, but equal rights for gay people is now on done deal. The more Republicans push against this, the stupider and more out of touch with reality they look.

Abortion: Nobody likes abortion, but the people who think that abortion should be made rare by reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies now outnumber people who think yelling at teens to not have sex is a great policy by over three to one. There will continue to be violent lunatics fired up by the wall to wall fundraising efforts of the Anti-Abortion Industrial Complex – but a woman’s right to end a pregnancy will continue to be part of American life.

Guns: Nobody is fighting over guns anymore, so it is quaint to hear wingnuts pretend that it is still an issue. The NRA has won the right for anyone to buy 50 guns a month in order to turn around and sell them illegally and sane people have walked away from this as an issue.

  1. Why don’t we fight about the non-existent push to reinstate the fairness doctrine. You know what’s so funny about that? The new Republican hissy fit about ABC News holding a town hall meeting with the president about healthcare. Republicans are up in arms about.

  2. Tom S says:

seems like the GOP is the liberal party in Delaware now…more taxes while Markell wants less spending…

  3. nemski says:

Tom S, when ur being snarky you should put a smiley at the end of ur sentence.

  4. MJ says:

Jason, you forgot to mention secession. Bill Colley and Bill Wrong Wong were advocating for DE to join the movement on WGMD.

  5. I disagree. The fact is that the trend on abortion has been toward restriction and eventual curtailment is just a matter of time.

Guns as an issue is almost a done deal for a generation.

Gay Rights, I would say that gays have pretty much won most of what they want. The radical fringe won’t get marriage and other wild demands. The mainstream gays are winning most of their agenda. They have gone from persecution to acceptance in 35 years. That is quite an achievement and a hard earned one.

  6. cassandra_m says:

The delusions are thick in here today — they must be making extra adjustments to the tin foil to get reception in the rain.

  7. Unfortunately, there are people who do love abortion and who want no restrictions ever. For those who support abortion please take a trip to a kindergarten class and tell me which children and choices and which are gifts.

Guns was codified in the Constitution and supported by a recent Supreme Court ruling. Too bad, left wing extremists can’t read.

The Gay Rights crusade will result in more litigation and every small business will suffer. I have come to the conclusion we can live with them but they can’t live with us.

  8. jason330 says:

Oh man. The leader of the DE GOP is in rare form today.

Mike, the GAY AGENDA is gonna getcha! It came for the pornstaches first and I didn’t have a pornstache, so I said nothing.

  9. cassandra_m says:

I have come to the conclusion we can live with them but they can’t live with us.

This will make a nice character ad for the would-be {insert elected office he won’t get here}.

    Another bigot heard from.

  10. MJ says:

As one of the resident gays that comments on here, I feel I must advise everyone what the gay agenda actually is.

    1. Cosmos and brunch at Noon at the Blue Moon on Sundays.

    2. Shopping for some fabulous new clothes for our trip to Fire Island.

    3. More Cosmos.

    4. More shopping.

    5. Pre-dinner cocktails with friends.

    6. A fabu dinner with friends. Cute waiter gives you his phone number.

    7. Mass (not at church, but that new club called Mass)

    That’s the agenda.

  11. MJ says:

I only gave you the Sunday agenda. Here’s the M-F agenda:

    6:00 am Gym
8:00 am Breakfast (oatmeal and egg whites)
    9:00 am Hair appointment
    10:00 am Shopping
    12:00 pm Brunch
    2:00 pm Work
2:30 pm Get forty winks of beauty rest to prevent facial wrinkles from stress of world conquest
    4:00 pm Cocktails
6:00 pm Light Dinner (soup, salad, with Chardonnay)
    8:00 pm Theater
    11:00 pm Bed (du jour)

  12. Very sinister, It is full of hedonism, materialism, and world conquest. I rest my case.

  13. jason330 says:

I can see why the gay agenda strikes fear into the heart of the leader of Delaware’s Republican Party. The cute waiter has way too much power.

  14. pandora says:

the cute waiter has too much power

    …over them.

  15. MJ says:

It’s obvious that David has his nose in his bible too many hours of the day because he cannot recognize satire. Loosen up and laugh a little or you’ll end up like Venables – old and cranky.

  16. FSP says:

If you live where MJ lives, and you’re going out and only eating soup and salad, you will be subject to serious questions about your sanity.

  17. MJ says:

Dave, that was the generic gay agenda. Those of us in RB make adjustments to dine at the Moon, Espuma, Eden, VINE, Porcini House, Lupe di Mare, etc., and partake in all of the wonderful offerings these fine establishments offer.

I have not been compensated for this announcement.

  18. FSP says:

“Dave, that was the generic gay agenda.”

There is nothing generic about the gays in RB. And that allows me to drop the shameless, self-serving plug for this Thursday’s Coastal Sussex Weekly, with a cover story profile of CAMP Rehoboth!

  19. jason330 says:

When have you needed an excuse?

  20. FSP says:

I’ve done it twice. Two times. Which is one more than you have. Come on, man….

  21. jason330 says:

Well I, for one, am eager to read about how Camp Rehoboth is part of the gay agenda bent on turning a generation of children into prostitutes who can’t recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

  22. FSP says:

“Well I, for one, am eager to read about how Camp Rehoboth is part if the gay agenda bent on turning a generation of children into prostitutes who can’t recite the Pledge of Allegiance.”

Don’t know that you’ll walk away satisfied, then.

  23. anonone says:

So nice to see you two getting along.

  24. C’mon Jason, he’s not like a Mike Protack blog spammer.

  25. Art Downs says:

It looks as if the issue of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has finally turned toxic for self-styled ‘progressives’ and turned into an untouchable political third rail. There are some urban jurisdictions where the local hacks push ‘gun control’ as a form of scapegoating that will not harm the interests of the true criminals among their constituents.

So-called ‘gun control’ has long been a euphemism for incremental victim disarmament.

Is it a mere coincidence that so many self-styled ‘gun grabbers’ are also unabashed ‘thug huggers’? Susan Sarandon is a high-profile example of this.

I invite anyone who disputes this to check out the fan club for the cop-killing thug who uses the alias of ‘Mumia’. His list of supporters includes quite a few of the leading lights of the ‘gun control movement’.

The self-styled advocates of an effective repeal of the Second Amendment include some who have allowed emotion to overcome reason as well as some self-styled aristocrats who bear (often congenitally) the Republican label.

I have noted an unwillingness of advocates of ‘strict gun control’ to debate the subject in a free and open forum where there are no teleprompters or ‘help lines’.

Perhaps this is a gage of the weakness of their position.

  26. MJ says:

FSP – not all of us in RB are enamored with Camp Rehoboth or their leadership. Having been involved with HRC, NGLTF, and other organizations, I have problems with the “leaders of the gay community” who don’t actually represent the GLBT community. but only their own vanity.
