Mike Castle (Hearts) Obama’s Financial Oversight Plans

Filed in National by on June 20, 2009

I wonder if Mike Protack, The Leader of the Delaware Republican Party, was consulted before Castle put out this (for him) direct statement sucking up to Obama?

I am very encouraged by many elements of the President’s proposal: Regulation of hedge funds; Consolidating bank regulators; Establishing a council of prudential regulators to monitor systemic risk and look for gaps in regulatory oversight; and increasing transparency within the emergency powers of the Federal Reserve.

BTW – Today is the deadline Mike Castle set for himself to make a decision on what (if any) office to seek in 2010. Has anyone heard anything?

  1. Ooooo…I can’t wait. C’mon Mike, make it interesting!

My money says he’s running for the Senate seat. He can do a lot more damage to progressive programs in the Senate than the House. If he loses he gets to retire, which certainly has some attraction at 70-years-old. The RNC will owe him big time either way. He’ll raise a ton more money running for the Senate. Money is going to be crucial and scarce. Beau can’t utter a peep until he gets back from Iraq. The Delaware Way would favor an old guy over Beau and we won’t have Obama to bring out the younger voters in 2010. He’s probably got a better shot at beating Beau than beating Carney. I just see a lot more upside than downside to a run for the Senate.

That makes sense. It is the Senate or the rocking chair.

The nice part of him running for the Senate is that the full weight of the Democratic Party (state and national) will be used to drag his scummy faux-moderate voting record into the sunlight for once.

I kinda hope he goes for it. After all of these years saying “Just look at this guys record!” It will be gratifying.

I just remembered another reason why I kind of hope Castle runs:

Mike Castle running against Beau Biden would be the best thing that could ever happen to Biden.

Biden would have to beat the crap out of Castle to win, and I long to see Castle getting the crap beat out of him. (Justice at last!) Biden would have to demonstrate that he is a real Democrat. Running against the wishy-washy Castle would mean that Biden would need to forcefully articulate the Democratic case for governance. Biden could not “out milqtoast” Castle into office.

Biden would also have to show that he has real campaign chops. Running a great campaign and knocking off Castle would put to rest any murmurs about Biden’s callowness forever. Sure he’d get help from DC – but retail politics still rule in Delaware. It would be Beau’s race to win or lose.

Yes. I’m getting giddy thinking about the bloody bar fight between youth and experience. And moreover, I have to think that when Beau returns from Iraq he might find himself getting giddy as well.

If he wants a career in politics and would like to get out from under the impression that he’s had things given to him – you can damn well bet that he would be giddy about getting in the ring with the GOP’s overthehill champion.

  5. I agree witht he following statement about Obama’s plan.

“is a description of what should happen, rather than a plan to make it happen. . . .

In short, Mr. Obama has a clear vision of what went wrong, but aside from regulating shadow banking — no small thing, to be sure — his plan basically punts on the question of how to keep it from happening all over again, pushing the hard decisions off to future regulators.”

    Now, who said that statement?

The President’s White Paper reads like a dissertation with lots of facts and history. The legislation will be the real test. Will it act as a safeguard for the future or choke off innovation, liquidity and wealth building?

    Mike Protack

Since we’re sure you would recognize any of this if it walked up to you and shaved off your moustache, your point here is what? To make us all grateful that we’ve been able to get leadership that shines alot brighter than your example? Besides, aren’t you supposed to be arranging for more teabagging on July 4th?

Jason’s incisive post lays out exactly how a Biden-Castle race should be run if Biden is to win.

Castle is a 28-year statewide incumbent but looking backward is a common mistake, particularly among those who’ve been around a while.

Looking forward, I see one candidate who got 59 percent against KHN, the other an Iraq veteran who delivered a well-received speech before 50 million viewers. If they run against each other, each should be prepared for a huge battle.

The burden will be on Biden to show his independence and self-reliance. The time in Iraq and his stewardship of the AG’s office may give him the tools. Lordy, he can give a good TV speech. How he handles up front and close will be more important. Even more: his position on EFCA, public option and similar core issues.

Beau Biden is an empty attache case, He is a great campaigner but really wimped out when the thugs at the DPC were shredding evidence and threatening nurses.

Imagine him prosecuting the likes of Capano.

Beware the gender-baiting imagery of GOP concern trolls, resorting to “wimp” at first volley.
