Twitter War Between Specter And Grassley

Filed in National by on August 14, 2009

I can’t tell you how awesome this is. I’m sure this is a direct result of the forum that Specter spoke at this morning. During the forum he was asked about Grassley’ spreading disinformation on health care (specifically “death panels”) and he promised that he would call Chuck Grassley right after he spoke. Some people observed and reported that he did, in fact, call Grassley and left him a message. So, I guess Specter (or a staffer) went to Twitter and now a war has broken out.

Earlier today, Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Penn., tweeted under his twitter handle “@SenArlenSpecter”: “Called Senator Grassley to tell him to stop speading (sic) myths about health care reform and imaginary ‘death panels.’”

Specter was referring to Grassley’s comment about the end of life care provisions in the House Democrats’ health care reform bill earlier this week in Winterset, Iowa.

“In the House bill, there is counseling for end of life,” Grassley said. “You have every right to fear. You shouldn’t have counseling at the end of life, you should have done that 20 years before. Should not have a government run plan to decide when to pull the plug on grandma.”

Moments ago, Grassley responded on his twitter account, which is under the name “@ChuckGrassley.”

“Specter got it all wrong that I ever used words ‘death boards’,” Grassley wrote. “Even liberal press never accused me of that. So change ur last Tweet Arlen.”

Specter is working pretty hard at being a Democrat, isn’t he?

But good on him for calling out Grassley on the lies about the death panels or whatever they call them. More people should do it.

What do you mean? I though Arlen was a good and loyal Dem now? …Damn. I came this close to typing that with a straight face.

Seriously, though, as long as he’s acting like a Dem, I don’t care whether its because of the threat of a primary or because Rahm threatened to have Zeke bring back his Grandma just to kill her again. Either way.

Good point. It is nice to have this little thing called democracy putting some pressure on Snarlin’ to do the right thing for a change. If a little democracy juice splashed onto Tom Carper once in a while, we’d all be better off.

  6. cassandra_m says:

Oh, I don’t think that democracy is applying the pressure to Specter — it is his own self-interest.

True. It is easy to imagine him standing in front of a conservative audience right now calling Obama a socialists if he didn’t fear the GOP primary.

Arlen is one of us now. Wheeeeeeee, all is forgiven. Too bad this doesn’t mean jack shit, no votes have changed, we don’t get a public option.

I trust Castle more than Specter
