I Take Mine Everywhere

Ummm….what? Meghan McCain, daughter of failed presidential candidate John McCain, was forced to apologize for titillating conservatives.

Republican firebrand Meghan McCain’s skimpy pajamas have her conservative followers all atwitter, forcing the daughter of failed 2008 presidential candidate Sen. John McCain to apologize for posting a racy photo of her décolletage.

[…]

“I do want to apologize to anyone that was offended by my twitpic,” McCain wrote Wednesday about the photo that has been viewed 103,911 and counting. “I have clearly made a huge mistake and am sorry 2 those that are offended.”

But some of her followers are not buying it.

“You knew you were posting a nearly NSFW [not safe for work] photo, so don’t pretend like you’re surprised at people’s reaction,” commented melissajenna.

McCain sees it differently.

“[When] I am alone in my apartment, I wear tank tops and sweatpants, I had no idea this makes me a ‘slut’, I can’t even tell you how hurt I am.”

As if you needed more proof that conservatives have a screwed up ideas about sex. Seriously people, if you don’t like it, don’t look at it. This is not a difficult concept.

  1. Miscreant says:

Nice tits. Now, apologize for your politics, Meghan.

  2. Rebecca says:

I’m certainly not conservative, but I just don’t understand this need to share everything with everyone. Is it narcissism? Sure looks like it to me. Wearing tank tops and sweat pants in your own home is peachy, but putting out photos of yourself in that attire would qualify as slutty in my book.

One exception. Jason was not being slutty when he bared his manly chest for the cause of open government.

  3. anon says:

I think they are making a mountain out of a molehill.

  4. She is over reacting to a few. There is nothing wrong with the pic and there is no wide spread reaction. Most people are just curious to see what the story that she fueled is about.

  5. Yes, Miscreant, how dare she stray from Republican orthodoxy.

  6. anon says:

I miss Jason. He would have posted the picture.

    🙂

  7. Delaware Dem says:

    Here is the picture anon:

I see nothing wrong with the picture. She has wonderous cleavage, big deal.

  8. anon says:

I know, I already saw it. It is not a casual photo of hanging around the house, it is a posed photo with a tightly laced push-up bra. Either that, or she is leaning on a shelf.

  9. anon,

I make you work for your thrills. Clicking a link is tough, I know.

  10. I agree anon, I don’t think the photo was an accident. If she was really trying to show the book, it’d be front and center right? I also think a lot of people follow her because she’s cute and young and not for her deep insights. It seems silly when they complain that she’s too cute and young.

  11. “I think they are making a mountain out of a molehill.”

    Or two molehills.

  12. V says:

I’m actually going to give Meghan the benefit of the doubt on this one. We’re about the same age and I too am a girl of, lets say, ample talents. I cannot TELL you how many times I’ve been at a wedding or a party, smiled in a picture, and then been like “oh. there’s…a boob.” Or worn a new dress to work that standing in front of a mirror I thought looked great, only to go to work and realize when sitting and leaning on my desk that it might be less than appropriate. The only difference is that Wolf Blitzer doesn’t read my facebook. She did something silly and she’ll probably think twice about posting pictures from now, which is probably a good thing. It’s stuff all people learn as they morph into professional adults.

  13. V, I’ve had that problem too. One thing when I try on clothes – look down and bend over.

  14. nemski says:

Okay, now that I got that out of my system, I think one of the issues Conservatives have to deal with is sexuality (yes, I know Liberals do to).

Remember how they got all hot and bothered over Palin and her librarian look. McCain shows a little something-something and they get all a twitter over it. Maybe if Conservatives addressed Sexuality, they wouldn’t have to hike the Appalachian Trail so often.

  15. Yes, nemski, I’ve noticed how much conservatives fixate on women’s looks. (It’s not just conservatives to be fair.) Do you ever notice how many conservative women pundits are blond and beautiful? It also shows up in some of their writings about marriage (I’ve highlighted some here). Some conservatives believe that marriage is this really awful thing where the man is protecting the woman’s womb from the outside world. That sounds quite miserable to me. And a lot of them appear to encourage marrying very young, even though that actually leads to more divorce. Even if they believe in their hearts that sex is for procreation only they just can’t overcome those strong biological urges.

  16. RICO says:

she is the Parris Hilton of the Republican Party.

  17. nemski says:

No Rico, Dr. Laura Schlessinger is the Paris Hilton of the Conservative movement.

  18. arthur says:

you have to admit. republicans have hotter daughters.

  19. Meghan McCain speaks:

To be honest, I don’t feel that I have anything to feel ashamed of. I’ve always embraced my curves and will continue to do so. I’d rather be the size I am than a skinny model fired for being too fat. And once again, a day after writing about my weight, it’s the media that have a problem with my body.

For years I have struggled to accept the fact that the way I look in a tank top comes off more “sexual” than a flat-chested woman. And once again I was reassured by the media that someone with my cup size should always be covered up. Or what, I’ll be seen as a slut? It’s pathetic we can come so far in so many ways, but when Rep. Aaron Schock or Rep. Jeff Flake post pictures of themselves without their suits on—and their shirts, for that matter—they are proclaimed “hotties.” But put me in a tank top and I am suddenly an embarrassment to the Republican Party and women everywhere. The double standard is infuriating.

  20. anon says:

I’m with you Meghan.. you can show us your double standards any time you like.

  21. RSmitty says:

The fact that any of this is a controversy is a controversy in itself. It also tells you of the self-loathing, phanatical and fearful bunch that hold far too much sway out there.

  22. Delaware Dem says:

Arthur, if you are looking at Malia and Sasha to determine their hotness, you are one sick puppy. Indeed, you should be in jail.

  23. arthur says:

DD, way to jump to conclusions. I was actually comparing her with chelsea clinton. but now we know what you are thinking about.

  24. wikwox says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Alaskas next Governor!

  25. RICO says:

Arthur, it is not fair picking on Web Hubles daughter because of her looks.

  26. OK, this is reminding me of one of the things that really pissed me off during the Clinton years. A bunch of average-looking middle-aged men passing judgment on the relative hotness of women in the public eye. Hint to everyone – there’s more to women than whether you would be willing to sleep with us or not. What makes you think these women care what you think of how they look?

  27. a. price says:

first of all. Meghan McCain is a bombshell
Second, look at Sasha and and Malia’s parents… they are going to… when they are over 18 and grown up…. going to be attractive women.

And RICO, nice trying to dis MM, but she, and republicans like her are your party’s last best hope at surviving. All the scarecrows like Coulter and Laura Ing-norant-rham can do is call her fat (which she isn’t) and dumb (which she isn’t) because they are used to being whores. Whores have done well in the republican party. Skinny, mildly attractive whores who the men of the Rupuke Klan embrace because they all give off the vibe that fat white men MIGHT have a shot. I reference Sarah Palin’s MILFy wink, of how Ann wears those low cut dresses to… i guess show off her upper rib cage?
    that said,
    boobs

  28. a. price says:

and yes i know playing the “ugly” card is beneath me, but first of all they did it first, and second, boobs

  29. a. price says:

    LIKE WHAT, IU!!?!?!?!?

  30. Brains, talent and blog posts, a. 😉

  31. a. price says:

way to write the criteria around your strengths 🙂

  32. a. price says:

that didnt come out as flattering as i meant for it to be

  33. pandora says:

This thread is becoming boringly predictable. I really hate the Chelsea Clinton attacks – it’s so McCainish. That said, does anyone really believe that Meghan didn’t check out that pic before she sent it out? I think Meghan is a beautiful woman, and, so obviously, does Meghan. My problem with this is how she’s fallen right back into Republican victim-hood.

  34. Joanne Christian says:

Politics aside FWIW, this young woman is of the same generation as a couple of my kids who are still “learning” the downside of a facebook entry. Sometimes, what is entered as the “off the cuff” comment or pose will come back to bite, as she has just learned. Nothin’ to do w/ sexuality, family values, or PC–it’s just discretion–and the reality that facebook is not your private diary, or pajama party chat w/ friends–but a global invitation to scrutinize your every punch into cyberspace…..for eternity. My generation only has to run from a bad senior yearbook picture….eeks, these folks will be red-faced from a whole lot more!!!!

  35. pandora says:

Difference is, Joanne, your kids are not the daughter of a US Senator and Presidential candidate. I agree that the fuss is stupid, but so is Meghan. But… maybe she isn’t stupid. She did, after all, get herself back into her waning spotlight.

I’d have more respect for her if she just owned this silliness, instead of the “poor, persecuted me” role she’s assumed. And, let’s be honest, liberals may be pointing and laughing, but it’s not at Meghan.

  36. Meghan will never have the same struggles as the rest of us. She doesn’t have to be a great thinker or writer to get in the spotlight and she’ll never have to worry about money.

  37. Scott P says:

Joanne, you are so right. I joked about it the other day in another thread, but it’s already happening (at least anecdotally) that kids are having problems with admission officers or potential employers when these internet (Facebook, My Space, Twitter, et al.) pictures pop up years later. It’ll only get worse. Similarly, politicians have to get used to the fact that there are no public, off-the-record comments — always assume someone is recording you. It’s almost like there’s no such thing anymore as a fleeting moment.

That said, I don’t think that’s what happened here. The obvious ones are not her only assets, she’s a smart girl. (Although I think I know which asset will get her farther in the GOP.) I agree with where I think Pandora was going — this got exactly the attention she wanted.

  38. RSmitty says:

P – Maybe there was intent to expose the pathetic nannyhood or even pathetic hypocrisy that trolls the landscape among the GOP landscape. I wouldn’t put that beyond her. Obviously, not every, single GOPer is like that, but there certainly is a representation of the mind-set. If that were the case, I’d say it is succeeding for now. That’s if there was truly intent beyond putting up a …er… somewhat teasing photo.

  39. Miscreant says:

“Yes, Miscreant, how dare she stray from Republican orthodoxy.”

She did? I’m not a Republican, so I can’t appreciate that.

“She doesn’t have to be a great thinker or writer to get in the spotlight and she’ll never have to worry about money.”

If it’s any consolation, in this instance, it wasn’t her ability to think or write that got the spotlight.
