Friday Afternoon Bacon Blogging — Bacon Cake!

Filed in National by on October 23, 2009

Bacon Slab Cake, that is. Just when you think this bacon thing can’t get any weirder, her comes someone to actually make a cake that looks like it:

Everything you see here is edible — the slab, the slices, the cutting board from an outfit called DebbieDoesCakes. How creative is that?

Share your bacon recipes or fantasies in the comments!

  1. Does it taste like bacon?

  2. cassandra_m says:

I don’t think so — I think it is a real cake that just looks like a slab of bacon on a cutting board….

  3. RSmitty says:

Well, that’s just a tease that ends in disappointment!

  4. Dave M. says:

I know I don’t check in a lot, and hope that’s excuse enough to ask: WTF is up with the bacon blogs?

  5. RSmitty says:

It’s about bacon. Why challenge the bacon? Do not insult the bacon. Love the bacon. Cherish the bacon. The bacon loves you.

  6. Scott P says:

Dave, some people look at Bacon Blogging and ask, “Why?” Cassandra looks at Bacon Blogging and asks, “Why not?”

  7. Scott P says:

Also, I just want to put out there that “Bacon Cake” would be a fantastic name for a band.

  8. Progressive Mom says:

..and I look at the bacon blog and ask, “What’s for dinner?”

This photo adds a zip to the phrase “let them eat cake.” Love it.

  9. Rebecca says:

I was looking for things for my niece’s geeky boyfriend’s stocking and she directed me here . . .

Bacon stuff in stockings — that’s real Winter Solstice or whatever you celebrate.

  10. cassandra_m says:

Dave M — does this mean that you are not part of the Bacon Hordes yet?

Smitty and Scott gave the best answers, but bacon blogging started with either Jason or nemksi and apparently I’ve been keeping it up. It is a silly bit of business before the weekend — that’s it.

  11. G Rex says:

I was just about to post a link to my favorite bacon source…and discovered that it burned down last month!

    A moment of silence, please.

  12. liberalgeek says:

It used to just be oscarsmeats.

It could have been worse; you could have been into Slim Jims.

  14. The Bacon Hordes are to this blog what the midnight crowd is to the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Which reminds me–is DL gonna have an all-bacon-themed Halloween bash this year?

  15. the cajun says:

Done the weave thing to top a spinach quiche. Well, you know my people love quiche, brunch, and bacon.

El Som, great idea for Halloween, too.

Sea Witch Beckons – or is that Bacons?

    Ouch, Sorry!

  16. cassandra_m says:

    Ouch!

The weave thing is pretty interesting, but definitely more interesting sounding on top of quiche rather than stuffed with cheese. Or you could just stuff it with scrambled eggs!

And John — the guy behind the meat counter at The Fresh Market up in Glen Mills told me that their bacon is Nueskes. At least the applewood stuff I was buying. It is yummy!
