News-Journal: Fisker to Build Hybrid Cars at Boxwood Plant

Filed in Delaware by on October 23, 2009

Andrew Eder, who has been all over this story, reports the good news.

And, lest anyone think that Jack Markell just got lucky, here is what a governor who was actively engaged did:

The company’s decision to use the Boxwood Road factory marks a quick resurrection for the 62-year-old plant, a casualty of GM’s bankruptcy and restructuring earlier this year. Gov. Jack Markell had asked Motors Liquidation Co., which is disposing of GM’s unwanted properties in bankruptcy court, to keep equipment in the local plant to help market it to automakers.

Does anyone think Governor Chicken-‘n’-Dumplings or her comatose staff would have thought of this?

As Branch Rickey, the General Manager for the Brooklyn Dodgers and the man who brought Jackie Robinson to the major leagues, once said, “Luck is the residue of design.”

At the townhall meeting I attended, it was obvious that the Governor was absolutely lazer-focused on bringing good, make-something, add value to the economy jobs to Delaware. It’s working. Smart people, working hard and smart, will pay off for Delaware’s citizens.

Speaking of which, no small part of this credit also goes to the UAW, whose members maintained such high quality when this was a GM plant. Their reputation for hard work and high skills was part of the equation.

Huzzah for Jack and all his team.

    Onward!

hmmm it says he asked, it doesn’t say they agreed.

according to Motors Liquidation website, the equipemnt is for sale, they are in the process of hiring an auctioner. (soon to be update, I am sure)

Motors Liquidation Co is “Bad GM” with 129 facilities (and the contained equipment) to sell.

Still, this is good news for Delaware and the greatr bunch of guys and gals who used to work at the plant.

    Good saying U.I.!

  5. Three cheers one for the people who need jobs, one for the community, and one for the Governor who was smart enough to hire a Republican for economic development.

Good one. No, Ralph Ann would have flown to Stockholm for the week to see if Volvo was interested in relocating. Ugh, just had an image of her with the candles on her head to make some Swedish heritage connection.

Actually, ES, Branch Rickey was quoting John Milton when he said that.

    Devil Rays?

This comment by Rebecca makes me think how different Markell is from Tom Carper and the fakey economic development through usury that he, Castle and Pete Dupont wrought.
