Bad Taste Rules the Day in Coverage of Biden Motorcade Accidents

Filed in National by on November 18, 2009

The Vice President’s motorcade has now been in two accidents in the span of one week! Well, if you pay attention to the actual facts, you will notice that, each time, the Vice President was not in the motorcade, and last night, it was the unmarked NYPD police cars that were plowing the road, literally, as it turns out, in advance of the official motorcade, when the accident occurred. Luckily, this time, no one was killed.

In both the Huffington Post and Gawker stories I have seen about this latest accident, we see this little nugget:

In 1972 Biden’s wife Neilia and 13-month-old daughter Naomi were killed in a tragic car accident.

The tabloid Gawker is much worse, entitling their article “Joe Biden has a car curse.”

Contributing to the “consult your star chart” horror is the fact that Biden’s wife and daughter died in a car crash in 1972, which nearly killed his two sons, too. Did Nostradamus have a prediction for world leaders who attract vehicle pile-ups?

At best, this is bad taste, no? Otherwise, how else could Neilia and Naomi’s death nearly 40 years ago be in any way relevant to the current situation?
