Nominations Being Accepted: End Of Year Polling

Filed in Delaware by on December 18, 2009

Well another year has come and gone and it is time, once again, to submit your nominations for our end of year polling.  The snow this weekend should allow for some research and consideration, so be sure to get your nominations submitted by the end of the day on Monday.  Same rules apply as last year, I am the final arbiter in the nomination process, but I am a pretty lenient guy.

The categories are as follows:

  • Scandal of the Year – Awarded to the worst Delaware scandal (past winners are Atkins and KWS)
  • Post of the Year – Given to the best post in the Delaware blogosphere
  • Biggest Policy Screwup of the Year – Given to the biggest screwup in Delaware Public Policy
  • Comment of the Year – Given to the best comment in the Delaware blogosphere
  • Rookie of the Year – Given to the best new blog this year
  • Blog of the Year – Awarded to the best Delaware Blog
  • NEW! Biggest Loss of a Blog – Many of these this year

Be sure to make your nomination and then check back starting next week for voting.

  2. a.price says:

    comment of the year
    -anything said by Mike Protack.

  3. anon says:

Delaware policy screwup – betting the budget on gambling revenue

Post Of Year – El Som’s CRI series or El Som’s liveblogging of final budget negotiations.

  4. anon says:

    Post of the Year (tie)

    – El Som’s deleted Richard Korn post

    – Jason’s farewell post (in the Time Magazine sense of having the most impact for better or worse)

  5. I nominate pandora’s love letter to Tyler Nixon.

  6. Biggest loss: I nominate Jason330’s retirement.

I have to second the gambling revenue screw-up as #1.

Best comment: I have to nominate liberalgeek’s new rule for Delaware Dem.

  7. pandora says:

Ooh, LG’s new rule gets my vote as well.

  8. cassandra_m says:

For comments, reis had a bunch of funny comments earlier in the year, including this one telling kilroy he typed like a muskrat with one paw. This in a thread about Jason330’s upcoming muskrat meal.

There was another funny one or two in the thread about the DE Defense of Marriage effort — reis asked David Anderson if the bill he was championing had a Sussex County exemption for sheep.

  9. If I may, I nominate the UI/Free Radical joint takedown of Art Downs’s chemistry as one of my favorite comments this year.

  10. liberalgeek says:

I nominate the Kavipsian plan for post of the year.

  11. John Young says:

Post of the Year for me hands down: http://www.delawarepolitics.net/a-late-fathers-day-post/

    Just read it again. Amazing.

  12. John Young says:

    * Scandal of the Year –Zach Christie Camping Utensil Zero Tolerance debacle
    * Post of the Year – http://www.delawarepolitics.net/a-late-fathers-day-post/
    * Biggest Policy Screwup of the Year – I’ll give you 5:1 on Sports Betting
    * Comment of the Year – The gems of Donviti, any gem (3rd person of course) will do.
    * Rookie of the Year – Children and Educators First! (http://elizabethscheinberg.blogspot.com)
    * Blog of the Year – DL Baby.
    * NEW! Biggest Loss of a Blog – DWA, Mike, we miss you.

  13. anon says:

Rookie of the year: New DL
Biggest loss of a blog: DL Classic

  14. I would agree that DWA may be the biggest lost in the blogosphere. You missed the biggest comeback which may be Dave Burris.

I second Smitty’s post for post of the year.

Scandal of the year has to be the Global Climate Change email leaks. It is having a global impact. Including being a basis for defeating the Austrialian bill on carbon emissions and will likely do the same in America. In Delaware that translates into the energy rationing scheme which may be MarKell’s undoing.

Health care reform has to be the biggest policy screw up. There are dozen plans and no one knows exactly which one is floating today even the Senate majority whip who is suppose to gather the votes for it.

comment of the year is too much work

Blog of the year unsurprisingly from my perspective is DelawarePolitics because of the special election coverage which may have had a small impact on the race especially Maria’s Barbie posts and the fact that we posted the winners way before the department of election uncovered problems with the department. Not to mention that we beat you guys in the so called influence meter last week. We covered events on the ground such as the tea parties (as well as helped promote them) and helped influence the health care debate. (I think we have better relations with Senator Tom Carper than you do.)

Rookie of the year: I am split between Miriam’s ideas and DaveBurris.com

Biggest Delaware policy screw up was the proposed 10% pay cut. Followed closely by the whole gaming change which caused job cuts at the racinos and won’t provide the revenue projected.

  15. donviti says:

Post of the Year: Man sized Mangoes http://delawareliberal.net//2009/08/06/26464/

    I got more though!

  16. donviti says:

don’t forget when DL had a round table with the Governor. Not for nothing but I don’t there were or still have been many bloggers around the country that can say they did that. It didn’t get the attention it deserved. The significance of meeting with the Governor of a state as bloggers is pretty big.

  17. donviti says:

when xstryker lays the wood he does a fine job. It may not be post of the year. But this slap down of dip shit Burris was memorable. Well done X:

  18. donviti says:

let’s not forget about Dominique either

  19. donviti says:

writing checks wasn’t too bad literature either:

    http://delawareliberal.net//2009/05/08/writing-checks/

and how can you forget about Leviticus Deux’s casting call in Delaware?

    http://delawareliberal.net//2009/05/01/casting-call-leviticus-deux-the-second-coming/

  20. donviti says:

I like to say this was the beginning of the end of the best blog in Delaware. I chose to attack Obama a little and wow…look at how people turned on me:

    http://delawareliberal.net//2009/09/01/doning-my-skeptical-hat/

true colors started to shine and the writers on here that are Apologists and not liberal came out swinging. It’s where I like to think that I begun to define what is standard Delaware liberal behavior. Swarm and Defend/Attack.

  21. MJ says:

Comment of the year – any smackdown of Pornstache, RWR, Lizard and RD

  22. MJ says:

And biggest loss (for the good) is the weight Mike Matthews has lost. Mike, you took control of your health and it really looks good. Way to go.

  23. I never knew the pre-weight loss MM, but, after seeing him at the DL War On Christmas Bash, I can only aspire to be that svelte (or that tall…or that young…).

  24. just kiddin says:

down with absolutes….and Dana Garetts blog! At least we had somewhere else to voice our opinions! And neither of those blogs blocked or censored their posters.

  25. just kiddin says:

Don Viti: I am with you. Its not heresey to voice your opinion re: Obama or any other democrat who are not following their hope and change bs. We must understand the majority who write here are simply democrats not matter how bad they are. Critical thinking left this blog and the party.

  26. cassandra_m says:

I’m going to second Bulo’s nomination of his series on the Top 10 Republican Targets in 2010. That was great writing, information-rich and alot of fun to read and talk about.

  27. cassandra_m says:

Comment of the year – any smackdown of Pornstache, RWR, Lizard and RD

This is a really good point. In alot of ways a big focus of Comments was in smacking back the infestation of Fox Noise lies and stupidity that these fools ( and others) thought that they could pretend was “discussion”. We all deserve Comments of the Year for that, I think.

  28. TommyWonk says:

For post of the year, I nominate Geek’s April 1 classic, “Breaking: Tommywonk to Join Board of NRG.”

    The post prompted comments like:

“Don’t fucking DO that to me! Jesus, I almost had a heart attack.”

“My world nearly fell off its axis.”

Besides being a great April Fool’s post, it was eerily prescient and foreshadowed the cognitive dissonance we have struggled with since NRG bought Bluewater Wind.

    http://delawareliberal.net//2009/04/01/breaking-tommywonk-to-join-board-of-nrg/#comments

  29. John Tobin says:

I thought El Somnambulo’s Top 10 Republican targets was well done as well. Thought provoking.

  30. For importance I nominate Jason330’s original Castle/Crazy Eileen post. The Castle video eventually went viral so that story was of national importance. I would also nominate the CRI series, the coverage of the Wilmington Tea Party and the VCCB board as important stories of 2009.

  31. Lost blog, Delaware Curmudgeon, I miss Shirley’s posts.

  32. Dave, you need to get with Shirley on facebook and twitter. She is kickin’ butt every day.

  33. anon says:

    Best comment of the year:

A lifetime achievement award for a guy who has been calling out Delaware’s right wing bloggers for a very long time (DP and Copeland mainly) and has never got any love from this side:

billholt, aka think123, and several other aliases as it suits him, but his style is unmistakable as he is one of the best writers in the Delaware blogosphere. He is one of the last people with the patience remaining to answer the talking points at DelawarePolitics, and is the only guy left willing to post anything contradictory on Charlie Copeland’s blog.

He says he is a lifelong Republican who supports Obama, but he articulates the liberal case better than any of us (DL bloggers and commenters included). Nobody can take down a Republican talking point and turn it inside out like billholt.

Just about any of his comments will do for the nomination. Here’s one:

we have been arguing the gap between rich and poor since day one in this country. Has nothing to do with Marxism or class warfare. If somebody says working people are getting the shaft, and rich people are getting too many breaks, that is what American politics are all about.

    …..

You are being told lies if you are being told President Obama is pitting us against “evil corporate leader minority”. That is a lie you heard on the radio or TV. It is not true. The only people I have ever heard use words like that are TV or radio personalities insulting the President. They tell you he thinks that way or talks that way. But he does not. Ever notice how conservatives are the only ones that say crap like “they think profit is evil” – they just make shit up. Nobody I know or voted for ever said profit is evil. Only conservatives say that they say that. Look up the definition of strawman. That is how you are being conned. I have never heard The President or any of his supports use the work evil to describe any corporate leaders.

You are living in a make believe world filled with make believe enemies being told they are saying make believe things. Nobody I know, ever said anything about big corporations being evil. Only the followers of Rush Limbaugh talk like that, people like you talk like that.

Follow the link; it just gets better. Any of his comments will do. Check out the Copeland archives too for some amazing takedowns that never got any exposure here.

  34. nemski says:

My comment of the year nomination has to go to Jason330, but it’s not a comment at this site.

Scenario, Donviti starts his own blog, Dorian Grey quits in his first blog post, and Kid A realizes blogging with Donviti can be difficult.

    Jason330 writes:

OMG you guys are killing me. If all of this was set up for my benefit like some kind of “Mission Impossible” deal (the TV show not the movie), all I can say is “Thank you!”
