Praise from Friend and Foe alike

Filed in Delaware by on December 28, 2009 0 Comments

The Delaware State News published a piece yesterday on Governor Markell’s first year in office. Unfortunately, I don’t have a link to the article, only a paper copy. After reviewing the $800 billion budget deficit Markell inherited from Aunt Bee, the piece goes through all of Markell’s actions in trying to close that deficit, actions […]

Monday Open Thread

Hi everyone, did you miss me? Or did you even notice I wasn’t around? Right now I have some blessed alone time and I thought I’d write something. It looks like you’ve all been quite active lately. I guess political junkies don’t go on vacation? Anyway, I caught this interesting statement from the GOP brain […]

Republican Lie of the Day

Filed in National by on December 28, 2009 11 Comments

At the rate they are going, this post may become lie of the hour or minute. Indeed, I cannot think of a time during the last year when a Republican of any standing has told the truth. The winner today: Mary Matalin. “I was there [in the Bush White House]. We inherited a recession from […]

Politweets

In general I stay away from Politico as it is the TMZ of political journalism, but it has stayed in my news reader for some reason. And today I learned why. There’s a short little article about the top 10 political tweets of 2009. Here is one from the Iranian Student protests: It was a […]

Pete Hoekstra is a Traitor

Filed in National by on December 28, 2009 15 Comments

Under the political rules in play during the last administration, Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra of Michigan would have had to resign by now, he would have been called a traitor by any number of administration officials, and the hotheads over at Free Republic and Little Green Footballs would have put out contracts for his death […]

Teabaggers Target Corporate America

Yep, you heard that right — the teabaggers are trying to organize a “National Day of Strike” for January 20, the first anniversary of Obama’s inauguration: The goal of the strike, according to the website where it’s being planned, is to “financially cripple” the companies across America the group says are “backing the leftist agenda” […]

Back to Where We Started

Filed in National by on December 27, 2009 110 Comments

I am starting to think the teabaggers have peaked too soon. A new CNN/Opinion Research survey indicates that a majority of Americans believe that the Democratic party’s policy proposals are good for the country, 51% to 46%, while 53% think Republican policies will send the country in a wrong direction. So, after all the screaming, […]

Dredging Up History

Filed in National by on December 27, 2009 5 Comments

Back in 2003, the Republican Congress passed legislation that expanded the goverment’s role in healthcare by adding the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug benefit. But they did not pay for it. Instead, they just added the cost of the benefit, several hundreds of billions of dollars, to the national debt. When pressed as to why […]

A conservative writer for the National Review dislikes Star Trek because its messages are liberal. You know, the messages of peace, tolerance, due process and progress.

1.75%

1.75%

According to Politifact, Obama made 513 campaign promises. 9 have been broken. On 18, a compromise has been reached. 75 promises have been kept. The rest, some 411, are still in the works. That is a 1.75% of his promises being broken.

I am confused.

In an earlier Nemski thread, Donviti and Anonone were critical of President Obama’s response to the attempted Flaming Crotch terrorist attack. I have to ask, do both want Obama to be more like George W. Bush in his response to terrorism? Now, both had been attacking Obama from the left as a result of the […]

Bulo Remembers 2009-The Year in Movies

Filed in National by on December 27, 2009 3 Comments

A caveat. I am not an avid moviegoer. Give me a film noir on TCM, and I’m happy. With that out of the way, here is a representative sample of Best of 2009 movie lists (or ‘film’, for the academicians) that I enjoyed reading. The movie that clearly resonated most with critics (not necessarily as […]
