Haiti Earthquake – Please Help

Filed in National by on January 13, 2010

As more and more information comes out of Haiti there is no doubt that the scope of this tragedy will be grow.  The Red Cross estimates that 3 million people are affected.  No one is even estimating the death toll.

The pictures/videos coming out of Haiti are heartbreaking, and I simply can’t look at them and not do anything.  So… I’m sending money, which is hardly original or heroic, but it’s what I can do.

If anyone else is interested in donating, this link will direct you to organizations ready to help with this tragedy.

  1. I already did 2 of these:

Text YELE to the number 501501, which will charge $5 to your cell phone bill. This supports Wyclef Jean’s Yele foundation.

Text HAITI to the number 90999 will donate $10 to the Red Cross’s International Relief fund.

I’m reading that perhaps the entire UN peacekeeping team was wiped out. The capital building and the UN building were both destroyed in the quake.

The Blood Bank is calling for donors (I got a call at work this AM) and I’m guessing it’s for Haiti, but who knows 🙂

I got called last week by the Blood Bank to donate (before Haiti) so I think they just need blood period.

Thanks for posting this, UI. Seems like everyone can afford $5-$10 to help fellow human beings. Isn’t that what life is about?
