Tuesday Open Thread

Filed in National by on February 23, 2010

How is your Tuesday so far? I’ve been incredibly busy, how about you? Why don’t we get started with this open thread?

A woman calls into a tech show because her wireless access disappeared. It turns out she had been stealing a neighbor’s wifi for more than a year.

The tech guy offers some good advice. I’m still giggling about how she bought an extender. I guess she thought she was just entitled to free wifi?

Sour grapes:

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee — who finished tied for sixth place with just 4 percent of the vote in the Conservative Political Action Conference’s presidential straw poll over the weekend — slammed CPAC on Fox News afterward.

The conference, he said, “has become increasingly more Libertarian and less Republican.”

And is CPAC corrupt? Huckabee didn’t quite go that far, but…

Because of the way that it solicits sponsors, it’s almost becomes a pay-for-play. It’s kind of like, who will pay money to be able to be a sponsor and to get time on the program. That’s one of the things that has hurt its

It sounds like Republicans are quite worried about the results of the CPAC straw poll. Ron Paul has the power to cause the Republicans a lot of headaches in 2012. All this grassroots energy that Republicans keep talking about – a lot of that comes from Ron Paul followers.

I guess it is too bad that Bush didn’t give up when he didn’t have the votes to go to war with Iraq like Obomba is giving up on the public option.

HCR 2010 = WMD 2002 Obomba lies while HCR dies.

V….been through Wilmington lately? I think their yellow lights are set up to make sure you cant make it through to collect big money from citizens.

I work there every day. The one next to fulton paper is the one with the camera 😉

I don’t think that Wilmington yellow lights are too short — I do think that their traffic lights are abominably timed.

But here is a report on the bad behavior of toll-takers on the NJTP and Garden State Parkway. I can’t imagine that taking tolls is at all fun or even interesting. But I think that the surliest toll takers are at the I-95 Delaware toll.

  7. liberalgeek says:

Actually, for a while, the City of Wilmington was using their own standard for how long yellow lights were. It varied by a second or more from the DelDOT standard. I cannot tell you for sure whether or not that was fixed.

Wrong blog, dude. Nobody here is paranoid enough to need a gun. It’s a good-government move, in that it cuts down on red tape.

It was back in October 2005 when U.S. Army Ranger Captain Chad Fleming was about to embark on a mission that required his unit to locate the second most sought-after terrorist in the Northern sector of Iraq.

It would be the final mission of his third deployment to the country — just 18 hours from returning home to Alabama.

“A high-valued target had presented itself and popped on the radar, so myself and 18 other men went in to get him,” Fleming, 36, told NHL.com. “We ended up getting into a fire fight and an ambush situation occurred.”

The ensuing battle cost Fleming his left leg just below the knee.

“Two hand grenades and a gunshot wound is what ended up getting my leg,” he said. “No one ended up losing their life on our mission, but one of my squad leaders (Sergeant First Class Joe Kapachzewski) lost his right leg below the knee.”

Rather than transition out of the military after receiving his prosthetic leg, Fleming would deploy to Iraq three more times and lead his men into combat missions as the detachment commander of a special operations unit.

“The last thing I wanted to do was send my guys back overseas without me,” Fleming said. “This might sound cliché, but this was my calling in life. This was what I always enjoyed doing. I love this country.”

That’s precisely the message Fleming drove home when he was first invited to speak to members of the United States Olympic hockey team during orientation camp in Chicago last August.
