“Religious” Leaflet Handed To Woman And Girls Just Asking For It
This sort of stuff makes my blood boil.
BRISTOL, Va. – Nineteen-year-old Keshia Canter handed three burgers, fries and milkshakes to a car-load of Tuesday afternoon customers at the Hi-Lo Burger’s drive-though window. A lady sitting in the backseat leaned forward, between the two men in front, and handed her a leaflet: “Women & Girls” it said across the top.
“Even though nothing is showing, you’re being ungodly,” Canter recalled the woman telling her. “You make men want to be sinful.”
Guess Keshia was guilty of having lady parts.
“You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed,” it begins. “Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?”
“Scripture tells us that when a man looks on a woman to lust for her he has already committed adultery in his heart. If you are dressed in a way that tempts a men to do this secret (or not so secret) sin, you are a participant in the sin,” the leaflet states. “By the way, some rape victims would not have been raped if they had dressed properly. So can we really say they were innocent victims?”
The hand-out is signed “anonymous.”

This leaflet makes the assumption that rape only happens to women who weren’t “dressed properly” when the truth is rape happens to women of all ages, body types and clothing choices. It’s violence. And no one asks to be raped.
This leaflet is also extremely insulting to men. Yet again men are portrayed as a gender incapable of self-control – who are excused for a violent act because they have gentlemen body parts.
What’s disturbing is that this “she asked for it” defense still carries weight in society. And for anyone subscribing to this mindset do you also believe people who drive flashy cars or live in showy houses deserve to be robbed? Aren’t they just asking for it as well?

I guess they think the men are just raping-machines but are stopped by certain types of clothing. Perhaps they’d be happy if we started wearing burqas?

I think it’s pretty common for people to think rape stems out of some sort of sexual desire. I remember highlighting here a column by someone at NRO who said that women are their most attractive at age 15-19 because that’s the ages when most of the rapes occurred. People with normal minds might think it says something about when girls are most vulnerable.
Girls and boys are most vulnerable, imo, at the ages of 15-19. It’s such a life-changing time, and coming to understand your sexuality is complex – I know a few 40 year olds who still don’t get it.
What upsets me is that we can’t seem to get beyond the “she was asking for it because her skirt was short” mindset. Like I said, we don’t apply this victim blaming to people with flashy cars and houses.
In the old days we would have just shot the old lady. The pamphlets would stop.
Point is the only reason these things go on, is because we let them.. The only reason we hear conservatives speak up at all, is because we let them.
It is interesting to note, that during a more violent time, there were no conservatives speaking out during the last Great Depression. Or better put, if they ever did speak up, there is no record of it being around, anywhere today…
and it is obvious that the author of that pamphlet never had sex. That could be pointed out publicly thereby sparing the life of the silly old lady.

What a remarkable level of respect you seem to have for freedom of speech! You support — literally — shooting the messenger when you don’t like the messenger.
And even though I find the contents of the pamphlet to be particularly offensive, I am glad to defend the right of the idiots who produced it to do so, and to distribute it.
I agree with you, Rhymey. There does seem to be a propensity by some here of wishing gratuitous violence against or censorship of extreme right-wing messengers and protestors.

Love the way the “brave warriors” ran when the girl’s mother approached them. Why didn’t they stay and defend their right to free speech. Perhaps they’re only capable of shoving leaflets in the hands of children – defending and advocating their position against an adult… not so much. Pathetic.
Many people think that eating establishments are a great place to recruit religious followers. I know a nice old lady that leaves religious tracts on the table on the way out of a restaurant. Seems to be somewhat borderline, but way better than this strategy.

My favorite tracts are the comic book-style ones handed out to kids in place of Halloween candy. The first time, my daughter looked at it and said, disgustedly, “Whats THIS?” I would normally have chided her for being rude and not saying thanks, but I was too busy snatching it from her hand so she wouldn’t have nightmares from the pictures inside and marching her away from the crazies.
I also enjoy the ones that are left atop the urinals in public restrooms. I know I like to have a quick read about Jesus when I’m shaking off, don’t you?
Rental cars (mostly in the south) occasionally (twice that I can remember) have those leaflets in them. I wonder if they got left there by the previous driver or if an employee was leaving them in the cars.

I have yet to find provocatively dressed fast food workers.The old lady should take a walk around a HOOTERS handing out her tracts.And tell me beforehand.That’s the only time I’ll go in one.
I doubt the lady handing out materials will hand it to grown women. Too scary.
