Senate Republicans Find More Ways Not To Work (While Still Being Paid)
They really are big babies.
There is a little-known rule in the Senate stating that hearings can’t happen after 2:00 p.m. each day without unanimous consent. However, every day, at the start of business, the Senate generally agrees, by unanimous consent, to waive this rule and continue with the necessary business of holding hearings. Here is the rule.
Republicans, however, are now refusing to give unanimous consent and are blocking the hearings. Today, during a Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee hearing on transparency, Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) announced that he had to stop the proceedings because of Republican blocks:
Typical out-of-touch Republican temper tantrum. Unless they really see this strategy of “not working” working for them?

Why Tom Carper wants Mike Cadtle to join him in the Senate baffles me.
I guess this is what McCain was talking about. Republican have abused the filibuster, why not unanimous consent as well. I think we should kill the unanimous consent rule.
If only the Dems had half the gall to pull stuff like this when the Iraq War started. The GOP really is full of some damn babies.
Here is the video of Carper cutting off Senate business. Notices how he passes on the chance to drop an anvil on the Republicans? What a tool. He would have had all three networks and 24 hours of cable news if he had one single nut.

I don’t know — standing up for ourselves against the crazy of the repubs isn’t exactly part of the Democrats DNA. It would be good if someone down here would start getting these guys to push back if anything to get something on record for the media to do their “balanced”thing with.
But I think that if I were at the DNC or DSCC I would be busily putting together a web banner or widget that websites and bloggers could embed on their sites. And use said banner or widget to count each day the Republicans send everyone home at 2pm. And then maybe add a scroll of the business not getting done because these big babies need to stake out their front seat at happy hour.
Take their BS and hammer them with it, people.
The GOP is refusing to suspend the rules agreed to at the beginning of the session and you complain about it? What other rules do you want dispensed with?
So you can’t schedule hearings after 2pm that day… how soon can you start the next day? How about one minute after midnight?
Why is this a rule in the first place? WTF?
Refusing to work past 2 PM? Yet another example of the difference between GOP senators and hard-working Americans.

I like the cut of your jib.
