Arizona Proves What We All Knew…

Filed in National by on June 4, 2010

It’s about race.

Maybe it’s time to admit that large chunks of America are in the hands of unreconstructed racists and vulgar idiots, and that the popular election of a black man as president just might’ve pushed these furious, economically doomed old white people into a final rage that is going to end very, very badly. Ready? Here you go: An Arizona elementary school mural featuring the faces of kids who attend the school has been the subject of constant daytime drive-by racist screaming, from adults, as well as a radio talk-show campaign (by an actual city councilman, who has an AM talk-radio show) to remove the black student’s face, and now the school principal has ordered the faces of the Latino and Black students to be changed to Caucasian skin.

Wow.  Adults screaming racist slurs at K-5 children painting a mural.  What a proud moment for our country.   I’m so sick of Arizona and their special brand of hate.  I’ll leave you with the closing paragraph of Wonkette’s post.  The writer says exactly what I’ve been feeling.

Remember where you were, when you could still laugh about teabaggers and racists and Arizonans, because funny time is almost over. If the unemployment keeps up — one in five adult white males has no job and will never have a job again — and people keep walking away from their stucco heaps they can’t afford and the states and cities and counties and towns keep passing their aggressive racist laws to rile up the trash even more, shit’s going to very soon become very bad, and whether it’s the National Guard having wars in the Sunbelt Exurbs against armies of crazy old white people who are finally using their hundreds of millions of guns, or whole Latino neighborhoods burned to the ground the way the Klan used to burn down black neighborhoods a century ago, we are in for a long dark night and no light-colored paint is going to fix that.

“I’m ready to start talking secession,” she said half-jokingly.

  1. Who are these people? Why are adults screaming about pictures of children who are non-white? Do they want those children to leave too? Plus, I have to add that the principal is a craven jerk to change the mural.

  2. I remember, before Rand Paul became the new face of teabaggerism, how Republicans would get indignant when we dared to suggest that their anger was about race?

  3. MJ says:

Just disgusting. I’m sure that Beck/Palin/O’Liely will all claim that this was a nazi-communist plot to make the teabaggers look bad.

  4. Do you seriously subscribe to this in 2010?

As an African American Republican we should give David some credit for having a legitimate take on all of this – expect he is crazy as a bedbug. So, there is that.

  6. pandora says:

Yes, David, I am starting to believe it. The lone wolf excuses
are over. Adults yelling racial slurs at children is the last
    straw. No more lame excuses.

And while this is vile, disgusting behavior I am not shocked.
This incident is a natural progression. And we knew where this
path was leading when the GOP followed Palin’s lead over
“real” Americans, pal around with terrorists, followed by the I
    want my country back crowd.

Arizona should be ashamed of itself. It’s a disgrace.

  7. anonone says:

Pictures of the mural are here:

    It is beautiful.

  8. Blowback in Prescott, Arizona – the radio host who began the “controversy” has been fired. He’s still a city council member, though.

  9. Jason330 says:

I liked Prescott. Too bad there are a couple of people at the top of the GOP foodchain making billions from cranking up the hate machine. This radio guy is just absent mindedly following a script.

  10. I still don’t get it. What makes a supposedly rational adult think it’s o.k. to drive by and yell racial epithets at children? That’s really far down into crazytown.

  11. Jason330 says:

WOLVERINES! They think they are fighting the Kenyan usurper.

  12. fightingbluehen says:

Why are all the faces in the mural dark skinned if the school is supposedly of mixed races ?

I don’t think we are hearing the whole story, but that’s typical.

  13. Geezer says:

“Why are all the faces in the mural dark skinned if the school is supposedly of mixed races?”

Stand out in the Arizona sun for an hour a day and you’ll be dark-skinned pretty soon, too.

  14. pandora says:

And, of course, FBH is wrong again. The faces aren’t ALL dark skinned.

  15. Jason330 says:

If being a idiot made you sexy and cool, FBH would be Daniel Craig.

  16. fightingbluehen says:

“The faces aren’t ALL dark skinned”.
Well then, I don’t get it. Something doesn’t add up.

  17. Jason330 says:

But you kno gat I don’t get about David? He can’t even alllow himself to say, “yeah, that’s wrong.”. A simple statement of fact is beyond them because it would mean calling out members of the GOP team.

  18. pandora says:

Oh, it adds up, FBH. The dots have been connected for a while. Please, stop acting like you don’t get what’s going on. Just condemn it.

  19. fightingbluehen says:

So why did the principal order the painting altered ?

  20. Jason330 says:

Shorter FBH: Glenn Beck has not yet explianed to me how thisis Obama’s fault.

  21. fightingbluehen says:

    hey jason330, knock knock

  22. Jason330 says:

Now if I was David, being African American, I might be more inclnded to break with my racist team. He is crazier than a bedbug though. So that complicates things.

  23. pandora says:

We’ll notice that while FBH plays at the “I just don’t understand” game he has yet to condemn the racial slurs yelled at the artists and children.

And, Jason is correct. FBH is waiting for his talking points.

  24. fightingbluehen says:

Of course, yelling racial slurs at anybody is unacceptable.

“And, Jason is correct. FBH is waiting for his talking points.”

You couldn’t be more off than that comment. I hate when people parrot talking points. I don’t even listen to Glenn Beck.

The only Fox network programs I watch are cartoons and English football.

  25. Jason330 says:

Now was that so hard? Little FBH is growing up right infront of our eyes.

  26. That’s the problem these days – we’ve moved into some weird form of political correctness where people with prejudices musn’t be upset.

  27. The reason the principal ordered the faces lightened is because he/she is cowardly. I have no doubt that talk show host unleashed his flying monkey brigade on the principal as well as the artists and children.

  28. Jason330 says:

To compare racist republicans to flying monkeys is an insult to flying monkeys.

  29. fightingbluehen says:

To compare anti-semitic Democrats to Helen Thomas, is spot on.

  30. Jason330 says:

Trying too hard sport. Relax. Take a deep breath. Maybe give it another go it in a few minutes.

  31. Geezer says:

Loving Israel doesn’t automatically make one immune from anti-Semitism. Indeed, the evangelical view that supports Israel so the end times will arrive sooner is anything but pro-Semetic. Most Republican men support Israel because they think with the larger of their two heads — the circumcised one — and rarely see an enemy they don’t prefer to deal with by smiting.

  32. fightingbluehen says:

Since there is no open thread today I’m going to go off topic, if I may.
I have a conspiracy theory that I have come up with that I know you will all love.

So here it is. Oil contains nitrogen, which is used as a fertilizer.
Algae thrives on nitrogen. Algae removes CO2 from the atmosphere.
    CO2 causes global warming.

Maybe “Oil Can Barry” Obama is fertilizing the Gulf with his oil in order to create a huge algae bloom that will save the world from the Global Warming.

  33. Jason330 says:

The dude from South Africa was a bit nervous.
